• El es famoso por las pinturas óleos. (oil on canvas)• Paintings often thought of as boring and plain, but his use of light

and shadowing techniques and incredible realism (only painted what he saw) based on Italian tradition make his paintings pop out from other artists from the Baroque time period

• His work stood as an example for other future painters to follow and try out. The impressionist and realist aspects were very important.

• Artists such as Manet, Picasso, and Dali have all re-created and used Velázquez’s methods in their paintings.
