WHAT EXACTLY IS DIABETES?
Diabetes is a condition where your body has trouble balancing how much sugar, or glucose, is in your blood stream.
You need glucose in your body for energy.
Insulin is like a key to unlock your cells and let glucose into your bloodstream.
Your pancreas is responsible for producing Insulin.
DIFFERENT KINDS OF DIABETES
Type 1
Also known as “Insulin Dependent”
Body does not make insulin
Must be given through an injection
Occurs more often in children and young adults
Type 2
Body makes some insulin but not enough
Body prevents insulin from working properly
More common in adults over 40
But can occur in children and young adults due to obesity
There are other kinds of Diabetes such as Prediabetes, and Gestational Diabetes
