October in the company’s home town of Galwaybefore embarking on a national tour. 3 Piece Suite isan exciting triple bill incorporating three worldpremieres, Turn out the Stars, The Other Way andConnect For by three very different choreographers.

Turn out the Stars is choreographed by guestchoreographer Tanya McCrory. It is a quirky andplayful exploration of life’s everyday wonders.

The Other Way is inspired by the beautiful music ofGabriel Yarde and Charles Aznavour and is anostalgic lament on how life often passes us by as weare looking the other way. This piece ischoreographed by Chrysalis’s principal dancerLeighton Morrison.

Connect For is based on the complexities of humaninteraction - how we form relationships – the reasonswe are drawn to some and not to others – and thosemoments when we choose to connect with eachother, or not. Featuring original music from daringcomposer Jesse Ronneau, whose work ischaracterised by an exploration of advancedinstrumental techniques, this piece is choreographedby Artistic Director, Judith Sibley.

3 Piece Suite features an international cast ofexceptional dance artists from Ireland, the UK, Italyand Norway. Following the premiere at The TownHall Theatre, Galway, the company will tour toKilmallock, The Helix in Dublin, Tipperary andLisburn.

CIOTÓGSee Saw14 October – 02 NovemberTouring

See Saw … gently rocking the balance between lookingand being looked at, a dance show for and withaudiences aged 0 to 100…

Ciotóg goes on tour across Ireland this October withSee Saw, a new dance work for family groups,

choreographed by Ríonach Ní Néill and performedwith Robert Jackson and Dylan Quinn. Produced byRichard Wakely, the tour has been made possiblewith support from the Arts Council and Galway CityCouncil.

In an intimate and informal environment, witheveryone on the floor together, babies, youngchildren and their parents are invited to sit down andstretch out as a beautifully intricate and quirkilyabstract dance unfolds in front, behind, around, over– and sometimes even with - them.

The work evolved from a work in progress developedunder Dance Ireland’s Mentored Choreographic Labwith Tedd Robinson in 2008. Originally made with anadult audience in mind, on showing at the 2009 Re-Presenting Ireland showcase, we realised thatchildren had a very direct, tactile engagement with it,and could in fact lead adults in experiencing danceanew. The work was further developed with artisticsupport from Lali Morris, artistic director of theBaboró International Arts Festival for Children, andopened at the Culture Ireland platform at Dancebase,Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August.

ISELI-CHIODI DANCE COMPANYMariana Bellotto (Buenos Aires)Argentinita08 – 12 OctoberWorkshop: 04 [email protected]

Iseli-Chiodi Dance Company welcomeschoreographer Mariana Bellotto (Buenos Aires) for athree week visit. During this period Mariana willtransmit the solo Argentinita to Jazmin Chiodi, whowill go on to perform the work at Frankfurt’s Book Fair(08 & 09 October) and on the 12 October inDüsseldorf’s Tanzhaus NRW.

Created with the spirit of conjuring a time of crisis,Argentinita reveals a strong interest in highlightingthe consequences generated in human behavior byextreme circumstances. As the dancer develops theperformance within a restricted space, we witnessthe character’s decomposition and transfigurationprocess. The succession of oppressive situations andthe latent possibility of escape operate as a metaphorexposing a condition of solitude anddisenchantment.

Mariana will also work as a mentor with Iseli-ChiodiDance Company, to refine their current piece MSY2[me seeing you too] and set the basis for a possiblefuture residency together.

On 04 October the company will organise aprofessional day around Mariana’s visit, inviting somefellow choreographers and dancers to share aworkshop with her. In Antipode, four great young male dancers perform araw and exhilarating piece of athletic dance.Powerful and energetic movement demonstrates theskill of the dancers and emphasises their connectionto a mesmerising soundscore composed by thetalented double bass player Joris Vanvinckenroye.

Extract from the sacred marriage of goddess and god:the reunion of nature and spirit

by Anne Baring & Jules Cashford

One way of understanding the long historical processof the replacing of the myth of the goddess by themyth of the god is to view it as the gradualwithdrawal of humanity’s participation with nature. This process brings with it the correspondingemptying of animate life from nature and thetransference of that life into humanity, which is thencast in a relation of opposition to nature. …Historically, this process can be described as one inwhich humanity has discovered itself to beprogressively independent of the naturalphenomena among which it lives, increasinglycapable of differentiation and selection, and so, intheory, more and more able to shape and order theworld to its own ideas.
