THE INSTITUTIONThe History of this college can be traced
back to 1901 when Bhagwan Dev Atma,
the Most Worshipful Founder of Dev
Samaj established Dev Samaj Girls High
School, Ferozepur City. Those were the
times when education for girls was very
much despised. This premier and popular
institution served as an incentive for the
establishment of many other reputed
educational institutions in Northern India.
These institutions are known for their
excellent academic achievements, clean
administration and high moral atmo-
sphere.
At Chandigarh, a beginning was made by
establishing Dev Samaj Girls High School
and Dev Samaj Junior Model School in
1957. On the pressing demand of the
public, the Dev Samaj Managing Council
decided to widen the scope of its services
by starting a Degree College and a College
of Education in Chandigarh.
Consequently, Dev Samaj College for
Women, Chandigarh was started on 24th
July 1981. During the short period of its
existence, this college has carved a
distinctive place for itself in Chandigarh
and is among the top colleges affiliated to
Panjab University.
VISION : It was the great Vision of the Most illustrious Founder of Dev
Samaj.
• That equal opportunities for education, work and service for Indian
women should be provided.
• That this institution distinguishes itself in the cause of female
education especially when education of women was not much in
favour.
• To be an inspiration to his devoted disciples to set up women
institutions.
MISSION :
• Dev Samaj aims at social, moral and spiritual upliftment of
humanity.
• Special attention is therefore paid in its institutions to inculcate
among students altruistic feelings, namely reverence, gratitude,
spirit of sympathy, charity, sense of duty, sense of discipline etc.
• To make them responsible citizens.
VALUES :
• Today with a renewed focus, the college dreams of holding itself
high in incorporating moral and ethical values amongst the students
which equips them with the ability to sail smoothly and victoriously
even amidst adversity. It is these values that continue to drive the
institution today with renewed vigour and zeal.
• Some of the values of the college are depicted through its unique
celebrations.
1. Maat-Pita Santan Divas : Treading on the path highlighted by
the principles of Dev Samaj, the college celebrates Mat-Pita
Santan Divas annually. It inspires one and all to recognize the
value of a cherished bond between the parent and the child.
2. Employer-Employee Day : Employer-Employee day is
celebrated in the college to appreciate valued contribution of
the employees. These very special virtues have given the
college a distinctive place amongst other colleges in
Chandigarh.
