Introduction :

• Active project based learning is more effective than passive lecture based learning.

- Design of robots is inter disciplinary.

- Visual, hands on approach.

- Robot design can be adapted to other subjects and levels.

• Use the motivational effects of robotics to excite students about science and technology

Page 3: Development of modular robotic systems for education

Objectives

• Development of modular robotic systems aimed at Indian engineering institutions.

• Modules can be used as per requirement for different applications.

• Hold joint workshops and competitions.

Page 4: Development of modular robotic systems for education

Hitec: Robonova-I This humanoid robotic kits offers educators, students

and robotic hobbyists a Humanoid robot package. (which retails for about USD $1400 ).

VEX Robotics• The Vex Robotics Design System is a robotic kit

intended to introduce students as to the world of robotics.

Lego Mindstorm The LEGO Group provides educational solutions

that allow students to learn as they play.

Disadvantages of available kits

• Cost $$

• Does not provide access to controller.

• Needs interfacing with software like Labview, etc.

• Self learning

In this project:Four types of robots to be developed(a) Mobile robots: three wheeled or four wheeled

(b) Walking robots: static and dynamic walking robots.

(c) Serial manipulators: serial arms with less than 6 DOF,

redundant arms.

(d) Robots for advanced applications: Students will be

encouraged to develop newer applications using the

modules and research.
