For over a century, ExxonMobil presence in Indonesia has played a great role in developing the skills and talents of the local workforce. Through a wide array of training activities and development programs, ExxonMobil is committed to maintain and nurture a highly-talented national workforce. “Through its people development programs, ExxonMobil provides a valuable opportunity to its local workforce to develop themselves personally and professionally.” Yulia Purwaningrum, who joined the company in 2017, was one of the nine female technicians among over 110 technicians recruited for the Building the Production Organization (BTPO) program. The program aimed to establish skills set to run the various phases of oil and gas functions, and prepare the overall workforce in order to safely and effectively operate the Banyu Urip facilities in East Java. During the Banyu Urip development phase, Yulia went through a two-year in-country training and then sent to Santa Ynez Unit, California, United States, for a nine-month on-the-job training, allowing her to gain hands-on experience from mentors and industry experts in oil and gas production. In 2009, she returned to Indonesia equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to operate the Banyu Urip facilities. She then transferred the lessons she learned from working overseas to fellow colleagues in Banyu Urip. Ten years after joining ExxonMobil, Yulia is now working as a maintenance planner responsible for regular maintenance plan in Banyu Urip oil field. “I really appreciate how ExxonMobil values the importance of developing its local workforce which allow us to build a truly exciting career with the company.” Another success story of ExxonMobil Indonesia’s commitment in developing national workforce comes from Helly H. Astanto, a lead mechanical technician in Banyu Urip oil field. His childhood dream to become an engineer led his journey to join ExxonMobil in 2007. Recruited for the BTPO program, Helly also underwent in-country training for over a year before going to ExxonMobil operations in Canada for a four-month on-the-job training. From English language to mechanical training, he went back to Indonesia ready to operate the Banyu Urip field. Following his return, he has been assigned to different roles from being an operation technician to being a safety technician. His training has allowed him to perform well in multiple roles. For the past five years, Helly has been leading the mechanical technicians and regularly act as the mechanical supervisor. Recently, he attended a supervisory training provided to employees with a potential to take leadership position within their department. “ExxonMobil has taught me a lot, especially when it comes to safety measures and the importance of applying it not only at work but also in my daily activities.”

“ExxonMobil mengajarkan saya banyak hal, terutama
