• 2010 implementation of Aeries Student Information System• We now have the ability to identify every student entering and
exiting the school district• As a result, we did the following:
– Met with all of the high school Principals and Assistant Principals (AP) to address the goal of graduation
– Shared the roles and responsibilities of the AP and Registrar– Provided professional development on proper State coding– Required each high school to provide evidence for all of their
exits and graduates– District office staff visited each school to verify their process– Reviewed all evidence at the district office

exited SAUSD from 2007-2010 • The categories and explanation for all exits:
graduates, non-graduates, and dropouts• The analysis SAUSD conducts in comparison to
CDE’s graduation calculations

GRADE 9 in 2007: 4,837 students
GRADE 10: 266 new students
GRADE 11: 369 new students

Graduate
Definition: Students who completed
all graduation requirements and earned a high school diploma or earned a GED or CHSPE
Example:Student earned 220
credits, passed CAHSEE and completed all other graduation requirements
The Three Types of Exits
Non-Graduate
Definition: Students who leave high
school to attend another high school, alternative program,
or leave for a specific reason.
Example:Student who passed away, exited school for medical
issues, enrolled in a program leading to a diploma, earned a special education certificate of achievement, transferred
to another school
Dropout
Definition:Students who were enrolled in
grades 7-12 at some time during the school year AND left prior to
completing the year OR
Successfully completed the previous school year, but did not begin attending the next grade
levelAND
No record of enrollment as of CBEDS Information Day

ExamplesGraduate Non-Graduate Drop Out
Student A completes all course requirements and passes CAHSEE.
Student B is a dropout in grade 10, returns in grade 11,and earns a diploma in grade 12.
Student C passes the GED or California High School Proficiency Exam.
Student D is special education, met all course requirements and received a CAHSEE Exemption.
Student E attends SAUSD and then moved to another CA district. The student’s cumulative file is requested by the parent AND the student enrolls in the other school.
Student E’s cumulative file is requested by another school AND the student does NOT show up to the other school.
Student F is special education with a modified curriculum and receives a special education certificate of achievement.
Student G completes all required coursework, but does not pass the CAHSEE

CDE’s Graduation Rate
• The official 2009 CDE graduation rate is 84.6%• The data review found 9 more graduates in the
class of 2009. A report is being submitted to CDE • The amended 2009 graduation rate is 85% with
these corrections• CDE’s 2010 official graduation rate has not been
released• Our estimated 2010 graduation rate is 85%
