Midge is the former director of the Law- rence Humane Society and is now the Kansas State Director of the Humane Society of the United States. She was very instrumental in getting ACARF “up and running” by providing a hands-on training opportunity for Andi, as well as providing guidance to the Board (current and former) during the first few hectic months. Her visit was in her new role with HSUS and she was again helpful in providing insight into new opportunities for ACARF and advice on how to meet the ongoing fi- nancial challenges of a privately-funded shelter—one of only nine in the state that receives no assistance from the city or county. Kennel Improvements

An Anonymous donor has pur-chased for the dog kennels a newly-designed flat-sided water pail. Some are in use and the rest have been back-ordered and ex-pected to arrive soon. They have a hook that fastens them to the kennel and a cara-biner-type clip will be used to fas-ten to handles to keep the pails even more securely attached. What a great piece of news! This should prevent a lot of water spills by ram-bunctious dogs, keeping the ken-nels dry and the water cleaner.

Lauren Porter has purchased a large Kuranda bed to be used by some fortunate ca-nine. These are off-the-floor beds built on a pvc frame, so they’re not only comfortable, they’re easy to care for and very durable. There’s a link on the website if you’d care to donate—Kuranda gives shelters a reduced price. These are wonderful for older dogs or any dog who suffers from joint pains.

Cat Adoptions Week ending 09/23/2011

Many Thanks!

So many cats from which to choose. They all seem to hold the se-crets of the universe within their souls, hidden deeply behind their lu-minous eyes. And they all long for a home of their own. Cats make wonderful house pets; they are extremely self-sufficient, requiring only food, fresh water, and a litter box, yet they offer in re-turn endless loving companionship and boundless entertainment. Come out make the acquaintance of our felines; they’ll melt your heart! Life just shouldn’t be this difficult for a little animal...you can make it so much better.

And for added incentive, the adoption fee for all male neutered cats has been lowered to only $40

Sweet Bakers

Get ready to attend the Biblesta Parade and celebration in Humboldt next week-end. The festivities begin at 10:30 am on the square. ACARF will be serving pulled

pork sandwiches, chips, and drinks begin-ning about 11:00. Events continue throughout the day, with a free bean feed at 5:00 (bring your own bowl), and eve-ning entertainment is offered thru After Dark.

On Saturday, October 7, do the laundry, mow the yard, and clean the house, ‘cause the next weekend, October 15, it’s time for Iola’s annual celebration of Farm-City Days. ACARF will be on the square serving all kinds of “goodies”—as well as having a Pie Booth as usual. Our Sweet Bakers will provide wonderful treats to share with all.

Hope to see all of you at both events!

The Pie Booth is again going to be or-ganized by Hazel Jones, who’s been dragged out of “retirement” for this event. Please call her if you’re planning to bring a pie(s) at 365-7210. Pie payments remain the same as al-ways; 40 cat licks and 62 dog kisses. We call it love.

If you’re in a donatin’ mood, the Fundraising Committee would greatly appreciate donations of soda—any of the five varieties shown. We’ll use about 320 cans at Farm-City Days!

Thanks for your help!

JoJo

Thanks for sharing this newsletter with others!

Beautiful JoJo looks dark and mysterious, but she doesn’t have any secrets. JoJo is, quite obvi-ously, a very loving cat. Pick her up and she will quickly begin to purr and cuddle against you. She has a gorgeous multicolored coat which is powdery-soft to the touch. Good thing, too; JoJo simply adores

being petted! This affectionate girl would continue to blossom in a home where she could spend a lot of time with her beloved new owner. We hope you will come out to meet JoJo and see what a lovely, and loving, pet she would be.
