The opening tournament procession, setup will occur in the classrooms, medieval fanfare music over the PA or live players if available, everyone in the procession, 2 x 2 with tournament officials on the left, standard bearer on the right
The green circles are the tournament officials, i.e. Patron, King of Arms, Heralds and Marshals. The yellow circles are standards/banner bearers.
Dark green == officialsLight green = standards bearers
It is assumed that each combatant shall possess a standard or banner for the tournament, hence, each combatant will be accompanied with a standard bearer (the yellow circles). The white circles are defendants.
30’This completes the setup of the opening formation. This assumes that there are 6 defendants and 6 appellants. If more show, we can accommodate them with a small change to the lineups.
The Patron raises his sword to signify the tournament officially begins signaling the Patron’s and King of Arm’s standards bearers to proceed to the rear of the lists.
Once all the standards bearers are in the rear of the lists, the Patron says a few words, and introduces his King of Arms (Frank). Frank proceeds to introduce the tournament officials by name, and points out the defendants collectively wearing white, and the appellants collectively wearing the purple.
When the King of Arms concludes with the introductions, the Patron then announces the official beginning of the tournament. At this point, the Patron’s and King of Arms bearers return to the front and positions themselves accordingly.
9. At the signal from the King of Arms to begin the bout, the appellant’s squire carrying the appellant’s banner leads the appellant into the lists
10. The appellant’s Herald announces to the spectators, the name and bio (bio at first appearance only) of the appellant
11. The same squire then inserts the appellant’s banner on the appropriate side of the Patron’s banner in the tournament banner rack and positions him/herself on the appropriate side of the tournament rack
12. Then the squire proceeds to the tree of arms and strikes the shield denoting the defendant to be challenged in this bout along with striking the shields depicting the weapons to be employed in the bout
13. The appellant’s Herald announces to the spectators that a defendant has been selected and announces the weapons of choice
14. The defendant’s squire (herald) carrying the banner of the defendant, leads the defendant into the lists
15. The defendant’s Herald announces to the spectators, the name and bio (bio at first appearance only) of the defendant
16. The same squire then proceeds to the tournament rack and inserts the defendant’s banner on the other side of the Patron’s banner and positions him/herself on the other side of the tournament rack
bout preparations:17. An arming squire for the defendant and an arming squire
for the appellant retrieves the weapons to be employed during the bout and gives the weapons to the combatants
18. They ensure that the harness, helm is ready for combat for their respective combatant and then exit the lists
19. The King of Arms enquire the combatants as to their readiness to begin and if so, commands the start of the bout
