Brenda Clark, the human dy-namo we’re so fortunate to have as a volunteer, has created an elevated dish to ease feeding for large, arthritic, or elderly pets. She will probably be sell-ing them at the Herff Jones ga-rage sale; all profits will be do-nated to ACARF. Brenda is also responsible for having built the marvelous cat tree at ACARF. She will accept orders for the trees and will, again, donate her profit to ACARF. Call the shelter for more information 620-496-3647. Jeff and Kristy Richards have been very good to the shelter. They have created attractive “ACARF Supporter” and “ACARF Volunteer” metal signs which come in blue and purple and are great to display in your front lawn. They sell for $20 each and $8 from each sale goes to ACARF. The signs are available at the shelter, and they have a booth downtown in Iola at The Market Place. Check out their products—and they do custom work!

There are a couple of people who have been lacking in rec-

ognition. Sometimes people are so faithful and so much relied upon, that we just take them for granted.

Terry and Sandy Zornes thru their company Homeville Vend-ing, have provided paper goods—napkins, cups, plates, etc—as well as chips and candy to us for a long time. Their contributions have been constant and invaluable.

At the July 13 Board meeting, the Fundraising Committee, represented by Ginny Hawk, Chair, and accompanied by members Judy Laver and Fran Clay, presented the shelter with a check for $4,300. These were the proceeds of the summer’s events, which included Yappy Days, Back to the 50’s Dinner, a dog wash, an all-night ball tournament, and two estate auctions. Over 50% of the monies earned were generated from the concession trailer, requiring many to work under very un-pleasant conditions—most of all, the heat—until the air con-ditioner was installed by Bob Hawk. All, though, were ex-tremely grateful to Jim Smith for his remodel of the interior to provide a much greater working area. But work, they did! Jeanne Cloud, the Trailer Queen, bore much of the re-sponsibility for the functioning of the concession—planning the menus, determining the food purchase needs and or-dering and shopping, coordinating the moving of the trailer and the grill, and insuring that adequate volunteers were on hand to prepare and serve. The clean-up afterward is the final dreaded chore. Jeanne has good back-up with Ginny Hawk and Larry Macha—both of whom seem to be on hand when needed. Other faithful concession workers were Fran Clay (delicious chili!), Judy Laver, Sue Tucker, and Becky Aguirre. The Mad Melvin Carnival required many volunteers, and it would have been difficult to monitor all the inflatables with-out the assistance of the Wal-Mart employees who helped!
