Vellamo Sea Museum Award-winning architecture

Located in the old City Port of Kotka

Main operators are the Maritime Museum of Finland and the Museum of Kymenlaakso

The main exhibition tells the history of Finland using themes such as ships, the seafarer, maritime trade, navigation and winter seafaring

Contains plenty of interactive sections, where the visitor can take part by doing and trying things

Haukkavuori Observation Tower

Originally designed as a water tower by architect John Paatela

Is located on the western edge of Kotkansaari

Construction began in 1914 but was interrupted by the Finnish Civil War, and only completed in 1920

Contains a café and an observation deck

72m above sea level

The old reservoir has been converted into a unique art gallery where there are changing exhibitions throughout the year

Kotka Maritime Festival Big opening parade

Held every year on the last weekend of July

One of the Finland’s biggest festivals

Nearly 200 000 visitors every year
