The King’s Hawaiian tradition began in 1950 when Robert Taira opened his first bakery in Hilo, Hawaii. He gained great success with his unique, original-recipe, Hawaiian sweet bread, because it was irresistibly soft and fluffy with a touch of sweetness. This bread became known as King’s Hawaiian Original Hawaiian Sweet Bread. Robert spread the Aloha to the mainland in 1977 when he built a bakery in Torrance, CA. King’s Hawaiian Sweet Rolls and Bread quickly became favorites and soon were distributed to grocery stores nationwide. In 1988, we opened King’s Hawaiian Bakery & Restaurant and in 2002, a fast, casual Bakery & Café called The Local Place. Both locations are in Torrance.
