THE COMPOSITE ARCH BRIDGE SHALL BE DESIGNED BY A LICENSED PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER. CALCULATIONS PACKAGES AND DRAWINGS SHALL BE PROVIDED TO THE CUSTOMER BY AIT FOR THE BRIDGE SYSTEM SUPPLIED. AS SUPPLIER, AIT WILL DELIVER TO THE JOBSITE ALL PARTS OF THE BRIDGE SYSTEM AS DETAILED IN THE CONTRACT DRAWINGS. EACH COMPONENT IS CUSTOM DESIGNED, DETAILED, AND FABRICATED FOR THE SPECIFIC BRIDGE PROJECT. D. THE COMPOSITE ARCH BRIDGE SYSTEM IS A BURIED BRIDGE STRUCTURE CONSISTING OF TWO COMPONENTS: 1. ARCHES - THE ADVANCED FRP COMPOSITE TUBES DESIGNED, MANUFACTURED, AND DELIVERED BY AIT 2. DECKING PANELS - THE DECKING PANELS ARE CUSTOM DESIGNED, MANUFACTURED AND DELIVERED BY AIT E. THIS WORK SHALL CONSIST OF DESIGNING THE COMPOSITE ARCH TUBES TO THE DIMENSIONS, DETAILS, AND QUANTITIES SHOWN ON THE PLANS AND ACCORDING TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF THESE SPECIFICATIONS 2.1 DESIGN A. DESIGN LOADS ARE IN ACCORDANCE WITH PENNDOT DM-4 AND AASHTO LRFD BRIDGE DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS, PHL-93 LIVE LOADING. ARCH DESIGN IS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE AASHTO LRFD GUIDE SPECIFICATIONS FOR DESIGN OF CONCRETE-FILLED FRP TUBES FOR FLEXURAL AND AXIAL MEMBERS, SUPPLEMENTED BY LABORATORY TESTING AS NECESSARY. B. SECURE DISTRICT BRIDGE AND GEOTECHNICAL (SOILS) ENGINEERS' APPROVAL BEFORE INCORPORATING COMPOSITE ARCH BRIDGES IN ANY PROJECT. C. PROVIDE AT NO EXPENSE TO THE DEPARTMENT FOUR SETS (THREE SETS TO DISTRICT AND ONE SET TO CENTRAL OFFICE BRIDGE DIVISION) OF CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS (22" x 36") & CALCULATIONS. PROVIDE APPROVED DRAWINGS, USING DEPARTMENT DRAFTING STANDARDS. SHOW A PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER'S SEAL LICENSED IN PENNSYLVANIA, WITH A VALID SIGNATURE IN INK, THE DATE SIGNED, A BUSINESS NAME AND ADDRESS, ON THE FIRST SHEET OF THE DESIGN DRAWINGS, USE REPRODUCIBLE DRAWINGS FURNISHED BY THE DEPARTMENT. THE CUSTOM PANELS ARE DESIGNED AND SUPPLIED BY AIT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE AASHTO LRFD BRIDGE DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS AND THE ASCE PRE-STANDARD FOR LRFD OF PULTRUDED FRP STRUCTURES TO CARRY THE REQUIRED LOADING. 4.0 HEADWALLS A. THIS WORK SHALL CONSIST OF PROCURING AND DESIGNING THE HEADWALL PANELS TO THE DIMENSIONS, DETAILS, AND QUANTITIES SHOWN ON THE PLANS AND ACCORDING TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF THESE SPECIFICATIONS. 4.1 DESIGN A. FOR STANDARD PANELS USE THE PENNDOT APPROVED BRIDGE AND STRUCTURES PRODUCT NUMBERS 8,29E, AND/OR 34E. B. CUSTOM ARCH PANELS ARE DESIGNED PER PROJECT BY AIT IN ACCORDANCE WITH DM-4 AND AASHTO LRFD BRIDGE DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS. 1. SUBMIT CUSTOM PANEL DESIGN SHOP DRAWINGS FOR ACCEPTANCE BY THE DISTRICT BRIDGE ENGINEER. E. TERMS FOUND WITHIN THIS SPECIFICATION SHALL BE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:

2.0 COMPOSITE ARCHES

A. THIS WORK SHALL CONSIST OF DESIGNING THE COMPOSITE ARCH TUBES TO THE DIMENSIONS, DETAILS, AND QUANTITIES SHOWN ON THE PLANS ANDACCORDING TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF THESE SPECIFICATIONS

2.1 DESIGN

A. DESIGN LOADS ARE IN ACCORDANCE WITH PENNDOT DM-4 AND AASHTO LRFD BRIDGE DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS, PHL-93 LIVE LOADING. ARCH DESIGNIS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE AASHTO LRFD GUIDE SPECIFICATIONS FOR DESIGN OF CONCRETE-FILLED FRP TUBES FOR FLEXURAL AND AXIAL MEMBERS,SUPPLEMENTED BY LABORATORY TESTING AS NECESSARY.

B. SECURE DISTRICT BRIDGE AND GEOTECHNICAL (SOILS) ENGINEERS' APPROVAL BEFORE INCORPORATING COMPOSITE ARCH BRIDGES IN ANY PROJECT.

C. PROVIDE AT NO EXPENSE TO THE DEPARTMENT FOUR SETS (THREE SETS TO DISTRICT AND ONE SET TO CENTRAL OFFICE BRIDGE DIVISION) OFCONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS (22" x 36") & CALCULATIONS. E. IN THE EVENT THAT CERTAIN DESIGN PARAMETERS, STRESSES OR SPECIFICATIONS ARE IN CONFLICT, THE FOLLOWING ORDER OF PREDOMINANCEGOVERNS:

3.0 FRP DECK PANELS

A. THIS WORK SHALL CONSIST OF DESIGNING THE FRP DECK PANELS, FASTENERS, AND ADHESIVE FOR THE COMPOSITE ARCH BRIDGE SYSTEM IN ACCORDANCEWITH THE CONTRACT DRAWINGS AND THESE SPECIFICATIONS.

3.1 DESIGN

A. THE CUSTOM PANELS ARE DESIGNED AND SUPPLIED BY AIT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE AASHTO LRFD BRIDGE DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS AND THE ASCEPRE-STANDARD FOR LRFD OF PULTRUDED FRP STRUCTURES TO CARRY THE REQUIRED LOADING.

4.0 HEADWALLS

A. THIS WORK SHALL CONSIST OF PROCURING AND DESIGNING THE HEADWALL PANELS TO THE DIMENSIONS, DETAILS, AND QUANTITIES SHOWN ON THE PLANSAND ACCORDING TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF THESE SPECIFICATIONS.

4.1 DESIGN

A. FOR STANDARD PANELS USE THE PENNDOT APPROVED BRIDGE AND STRUCTURES PRODUCT NUMBERS 8,29E, AND/OR 34E.

B. CUSTOM ARCH PANELS ARE DESIGNED PER PROJECT BY AIT IN ACCORDANCE WITH DM-4 AND AASHTO LRFD BRIDGE DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS.
