EXPERIENTIAL GARDEN 01
The focus of this design wast to manipulate space by choreographing the entrances, thresholds, pauses and exits of a space. This began with a series of drawings and models to represent these five aspects. These five aspects were then asked to be explored through a garden design.

EXPERIENTIAL GARDEN 01
These drawings represent an interpretation of a walk through the experiential garden. The moments throughout the design that capture the choreography of this space. The end result is meant to convey contemplative opportunities to look at views and sit.

40 ACRE PARK DESIGN 02
The concept of the 40 Acre Park Design was to look at a larger scale site and find smaller spaces to develop and work together to create a comprehensive park experience. It was asked to look at the site critically and identify specific locations that can render unique opportunities for gathering, nature watching and ecological interventions to improve the quality of the environmental aspects.

40 ACRE PARK DESIGN 02
With in the 40 acre there id s designed a sheltered space right at the entrance of the site for larger gathering spaces. For more intimate small spaces and ecological interventions the sitting walls address erosion problems on the site off of the edge conditions of some of the ponds. The bird watching station is adjacent to the sheltered amphitheater and is at a high point on the terrace to over look the most bird inhabited areas on site. The fishing decks protrude out to the deeper more prominent opportunities for fishing.

AYURVEDA IN THE HIGHLANDS 03
In the highlands of Denver an ayurveda center is designed to provide holistic therapy to help the body keep its balance. The science of Ayurveda is founded on the principle that the universe is composed of five elements that is air, fire, water, earth and space. All these elements are represented in us by three energies called the "doshas", namely the Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

AYURVEDA IN THE HIGHLANDS 03
The design came from the idea of balancing the three doshas. The sinusoidal wave in the design creates a balance of larger and smaller more intimate spaces in the building. The basement is designed to be for more private therapies that focus on the individual. The first level has a large movement room that can house active therapies like yoga. This level also has the ayurveda practitioner to set appointments for basement level treatments. The top level acts as a green roof for a community herbal garden that would be used in the tea house. The top level also has an herbal drying room that serves as a storage and processing room to make the tea ready to serve fresh. The light pylons capture light during the day and filter it through the building to allow for some natural light into the basement. At night they act as low lit beacons for security in the neighborhood.

CU DESIGN BUILD - BURKE PARK 04
Our class partnered with the City of Boulder Parks and Rec Department to design a park space that would make an educational setting for the local school and community members. The main focus of the design was to develop an outdoor classroom and gathering space for the students at the K-8 Middle School in the community. The Secondary goal was to design a space for community members to experience year-round as a universal space.

CU DESIGN BUILD - BURKE PARK 04
The concept of the outdoor classroom came from a series of design charettes that addressed directionality and focal points from a typical classroom setting. With feedback from the community and the city we then came up with the idea a deck that has undulating folds that create both, playing and seating opportunities. Each half of the deck directs focal points toward the flatirons and views into the lake. The darker strips of decking create an edge condition separating the two deck halves defining the space. These decking strips will have a laser etched time line of the Burke Park’s history to create an site specific info graphic. The overall space is supposed to bring people in to sit and see the views this site has to offer. Permitting documents are under review to be able to build the class room. We have constructed 5’-3’ mounds and have planted trees for an arboratum concept.
