Shindewadi Mumbai Public School started in April 2009. The school has classes in Jr. KG through 6th grade.

Shindewadi Mumbai Public School offers a unique program where children learn through multiple intelligences.

Teachers assess students regularly and then decide upon a course of action basing on this assessment data.

In the last two years, the Shindewadi Public Schools has invested in parents as equal stakeholders in the school through monthly meetings, a parent-teacher association, and informative sessions with the parents.

In Shindewadi, we believe in the holistic development of our children and a form of teaching which does not restrict itself to just textbooks .

Everyone comes together to ensure high student achievement

JOY OF GIVING

The Joy of Giving Week is India's "festival of giving"! Launched in 2009, the festival is celebrated every year, in the week including Gandhi Jayanti, i.e., October 2-8, and brings together Indians from all walks of life, to celebrate "giving".

Millions of people give their time, money, resources or skills back to society- by creating or participating in "events" of their choice. A giving event could be as simple as a family taking out the maid's children for an ice-cream party, or as large as the Design For Change Contest that had 200,000+ school children across India participating and volunteering to make a difference.

Joy of Giving Week is a volunteer driven project and their motto is simply to spread some happiness encouraging millions across the world to spare sometime from their lives and contribute to greater good.

Shindewadi will be participating in Joy of Giving Week in our School by participating a Design for Change Project.

DESIGN FOR CHANGE

Design for Change is the largest global movement designed to give children an opportunity to express their own ideas for a better world and put them into action. Children and adults learn through the Design for Change Challenge that “I Can” are the two most powerful words a person can believe. It enables children to assume responsibility from a very young age and help bring about a change in society.

Our aim with this project is to sensitize our kids to issues around them and teach them the importance of sharing no matter how little you have.

We believe it is this thinking and approach which will one day transform them into unique adults.

For the Shindewadi Design Project, we have decided to help Bal Anand: World Children Welfare Trust India.

BAL ANAND:WORLD CHILDREN WELFARE TRUST INDIAWorld Children Welfare Trust India is a licensed NGO registered under

Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950, Orphanages and other Charitable Homes (Supervision and Controls) Act, 1960 and Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection )Act, 2000.

It was set up in 1984 to receive shelter and rehabilitate orphaned, abandoned and destitute minors by the way of adoption. First Children’s Home- Bal Anand was commenced in 1984 with 8 children in residential care. Additional centres, Bal Ashraya and Bal Uday Shishu Greh were set up in Nagpur and Bhandara respectively. About 20 special children are under care of Bal Anand.

It is an environment that provides the child warmth, care and material comforts of a home and family until an adopting family is found. Though it is nearly impossible to find an adoption family for the special needs children. Many of these children are being schooled at special institutions – Sulabha School for Mentally Retarded and National Centre for Cerebral Palsy – now known as National Resource Centre for Inclusion- India.

Preeti, Grade 4-BThe children of Bal Anand Ashram don't stay with their family members. Their family does not care about them. So these children were thrown in deserted areas. The Bal Anand Ashram takes care of these children. These children need food, medicines, clothes and toys. We are feeling upset as the family members don't care about these children.Rohit, Grade 6

OUR TRIP TO BAL ANAND

Bal Anand utilises close to 1500 diapers in one day. They have a long list of monthly medicinal needs and hygiene products. Certain medicines are patient specific and others come under the category of general everyday needs. Similarly, they cook 3 healthy meals a day for 54 kids.

Additionally, the new born babies need specific baby food. There is also an immense requirement of clothes, toys and stationery. In today’s day and age where it is hard to raise one child Bal Anand is providing for 54.

EDWe spoke about the issue of the kids at Bal Anand during circle time in school and asked the students as to what they imagined about the issue. Here are some of the responses from the children about how they wanted to go about the task of giving joy to the orphanage kids.

OUR STUDENTS’ GOALS TOWARDS THE PROJECT

In the orphanage there are 54 children. In the orphanage 20 children are mentally challenged. There are small babies who are born and their parents leave them alone. There was a girl who was thrown in a dustbin and all rats bit her. Her name is Pari and she is very beautiful. There are 2 boys whose parents left them alone. They are brothers.

They need many medicines, clothes and all other important things. We can help them by giving them handwash, clothes, medicines and food and we can get the money by collecting it. We can ask big company managers to help us.

Afreen Sheikh, 4-B

Bal Anand is a place for children who have lost their parents. It is an orphanage. In Bal Anand there are 54 kids. Bal Anand is in Chembur. They need Dettol Bottles, diapers, food and medicines. We can save and collect money and give it to the owner of Baal Anand. We can tell good things to children in Bal Anand and help them.

Aditya, 4-BWe are helping Bal Anand in Chembur. They need love, friends, parents, toys, medicines, fruits and vegetables. They need our help. There are big people who take care f the 54 children. It is so difficult to cook for so many children. They need money to bring things for the children of Bal Anand. We are going o collect this money.

Some kids at Bal Anand don't speak, some cannot see and some can't walk. Their parents have left them in dustbins. People who see them crying bring them to the Bal Anand Ashram which is an orphanage.Joy of giving happens on 2nd October which is Gandhi Jayanti. So on this day we want to help them by giving them good food.

Purvi Grade 6We are from Akanksha Shindewadi Mumbai Public School and want to help kids at Bal Anand Ashram children at Bal Anand Ashram don't have their own family.
