n tiempos remotos, nuestros an-
sustento y refugio. Actualmente existe
en el mundo la tendencia de volver
hacia la naturaleza, la manera de viajar
ahora no solo es ir a conocer lugares y
culturas distintas sino tambin tener
puentes colgantes conceptuales, o
puentes temt icos , t i ro lesas ,
escalerillas y un sin fin de instalaciones
que hacen de estos paseos una forma
divertida, emocionante y segura de
sentir al mximo la naturaleza.
Incluye:
- Casco, guantes, arns, baga de segu-
ridad, bloqueadores, mosquetones,
cuerdas dinmicas y estticas, guas,
monitores e instruccin.
- Cd con fotografas y videos del
paseo.

to-
especies.
Participaron alrededor 150 competidores (nacionales e
internacio-
nales) quienes corrieron en 3 categoras principales: 300K, 150K
y

he 4th edition of Expedition Tembias, called Mbatui Chal-
lenge will took place in November 3 to 5, 2012. The south of
TParaguay was the scenery of the longest expedition of the year,
starting and finishing in the city of Ayolas, Department of
Misiones, having as the main axe the Paran River with its
islands
and beaches. It was a trip of more than 300 km (in the main
cate-
gory) going through an area of astonishing beauty and which is
very
important for the preservation and survival of migratory
birds.
The Mbatui is one of the migratory birds that fly the longest
distance
in the world of nature. These birds carry out their reproduction
in the
Arctic and fly through Paraguay in their trip through South
America,
flying more than 32,000 km per year; some of them can fly
non-stop
more than 9,700 km.
The Expedition Tembias - Mbatui Challenge made the runner to
ex-
perience the same situation as the birds during their annual
migra-
tion, creating in that way awareness in the whole population
about
the importance of protecting the wetlands and the different
species.
This event had over 150 competitors (local and international)
who
participated in 3 main categories: 33K, 150K and 80K, in all
three cat-
egories there were a General category and a co-ed one.
The purpose of such initiative was to give continuity and
latitude to
the Program of Environmental Education of Guyra Paraguay,
and
to that effect, all the money collected was used for the
strengthening
of local preservation groups, the implementation of educational
ac-
tivities and the preservation of nature. It also has the purpose
to or-
ganize sport-preservationist-cultural events annually.
The race was organized by Guyra Paraguay jointly with the
Para-
guayan Geographical Association and the Expedition Tembias.
It
has the support and it is sponsored by de Specialized y

small portions of Bouef with gratn of Potatoes. Salmon in
herbs crout, wasabi sauce with baby carrots, and
vegetables stuffed chicken, mustard sauce and spinach

For the culmination of a good meal you cannot miss
dessert. How about a fraicherpassion with passion fruit

The diverse options are mouth watering, and it becomes a

A place directed to gourmets and ideal for getting

Para cuando la vida Brasserie offers an exotic menu, with
original preparations and flavors that can perfectly merge.
Among the appetizers, we recommended crunchy gizzards
on a smooth mustard bread and smashed green onions, or
you may choose something more fresh such as a Bouquet
of fresh leaves with raw ham 'serrano' type, dry fruits,
blue
cheese and vinegar reduction, among other tempting
options.
As the main dish, we suggest lamb on grilled 'polenta' with
chutney of mango and senshuan pepper. Another
irresistible dish is the salmon in herbs crout, sauce of
wasabi with carrots and spinach, a much lighter but really
delicious option.
Something extremely innovating in the menu is the
possibility to try small portion of the dishes that will
allow
you to make the selection of a dish an easier task. If we
want to know first the name of the dishes, we have a
section of the menu where it is detailed a combination of
dishes in small portions, an interesting suggestion in order
to know the flavor of the dishes before ordering the main

cualquier otra cosa.
Los carnavales ms grandes toman lu-
gar en Encarnacin, donde gran parte
de la nueva costanera se convierte en
la ruta del desfile. Este se denomina el
sambdromo, nombre proveniente
de la samba brasilera, msica que to-
can grupos en vivo y bateristas, acom-
paando en todo momento al desfile.

traditions, Paraguayans still enjoy a
good party. Nowhere i s th is
combination of traits on better display
than during carnaval season. Carnaval
is a blow out festival that involves
revelers engaging in sinful activities
before the forty days of Lent leading
up to Easter week. In the case of
Paraguay, the sins of carnaval mostly
involve drinking, spraying people with
cans of foam, and admiring semi-
naked dancers. Although this tradition
has religious roots, for many carnaval
is more about partying than anything
else.
The largest carnaval celebrations take
place in Encarnacin where an entire
section of the city's new boardwalk
(costanera) is set up as the parade
route, known as the "sambdromo."
This name comes from the Brazilian
samba music that accompanies the
parade, usually played by live bands
and marching drum lines. For several
weekends, groups of drum lines,
palcos del sambdromo se llenan de
juerguistas que animan, bailan, y to-
man, mientras que msicos, carrozas
temticas, y mujeres disfrazadas, to-
Fashion Show.

As co-

ade-
lantado y acostumbran tener mucha informacin disponible.

ofrecer.
Paraguay (Other Places Travel Guide) provee a los lectores la
in-

Paraguay (Other Places

y celebraciones religiosas ms interesantes, incluyendo

PARAGUAY TRAVEL GUIDE
LibrosBooks
Before my husband visited Paraguay in 2007 I tried to find
some books on Paraguay for him to read, says Natalia
Goldberg. I knew my homeland wasn't the most well-known
country in Latin America, but I was truly surprised at the lack
of
information available about Paraguay. I quickly realized
that
being half-Paraguayan and half-American I was in a unique
po-
sition to share information about the country I knew and
loved. Thus began a four year journey which culminated in
the publication of the English language guidebook Paraguay
(Other Places Travel Guide), the most comprehensive travel
guidebook about Paraguay to date.
I saw this guidebook not only as a labor of love, but as a
vital
component for the growth of our national tourism industry,
says the author. Most international tourists like to plan
their
trips in advance and are used to having lots of information
at
their fingertips. I felt that if they were not able to find
informa-
tion about Paraguay they would mistakenly believe our coun-
try was not worth visiting. Fortunately, in the years since
she
began writing the guidebook Paraguay's tourism industry has
blossomed and the country has steadily gained popularity
amongst international tourists. In addition, upcoming high-
profile events such as the FIFA World Cup and Olympics to be
held in neighboring Brazil in 2014 and 2016 present a golden
opportunity for Paraguay's tourism industry. With my guide-
book in hand visitors to the region will be inspired to come
to
Paraguay and will be able to enjoy everything this unique
coun-
try has to offer.
Paraguay (Other Places Travel Guide) provides readers with
the information they need to explore our country from top to
bottom, whether they are casual tourists or adventure-
seeking backpackers. The book includes:
- Reviews and recommendations of hotels and restaurants
help tourists find the best fit for their needs and their
bud-
get.
- Detailed maps and information on traveling by car, bus,
boat and airplane, helping visitors navigate the country
like a local.
- Practical information on how to explore Paraguay's biolog-
ically rich eco-systems and see the diverse wildlife, from
jag-
uars in the Chaco to toucans in the Atlantic Forest.
- The only available guide to traveling by boat along the
Para-
guay River to the wetlands of the Paraguayan Pantanal.
Paraguayans are famous for their hospitality, and spending
time with the locals is the most memorable part of many
visi-
tors' time in Paraguay. Paraguay (Other Places Travel Guide)
includes plenty of information to help visitors both
understand
and participate in Paraguay's unique culture.
- Foreigners will enjoy practicing useful Guaran phrases ex-
plained throughout the book, such as: ndaipori
problema (no problem) and jaha (let's go!)
- Learn how to drink terer and yerba mate like a Para-
guayan, including etiquette and how to choose yuyos (me-
dicinal herbs).
- Where and when to experience the most interesting cul-
tural events and religious celebrations, including tips on
participating in fiestas patronales and the pilgrimage to
Caacup.
- Details on Paraguay's many artisanal traditions, from
andut lace to indigenous wood carvings, with informa-
tion on how to support local artisans.
Foreigners and Paraguayans alike will find Paraguay (Other
Places Travel Guide) to be an invaluable guide to
experiencing
everything Paraguay has to offer. The book is currently
avail-
able in the United States and Europe through Amazon.com in
both print and digital formats, and will soon be available in
Par-
aguay at Librera Books. For more information contact the au-
thor through her website www.discoveringparaguay.com
About the Author:
The daughter of an American Peace Corps Volunteer and a Par-
aguayan, Romy Natalia Goldberg grew up living in various
countries in Latin America. She returned to Paraguay fre-
quently with her mother to visit her grandparents in the
town
of Piribebuy. There she helped her aunt tend to the almacn
(general store) and tried her best to catch her
grandmother's
chickens. During her studies at Pomona College in the United
States she cherished her aunt's frequent care-packages from
Paraguay including home-made yerba quemada for cocido. Af-
ter receiving her degree in Media Studies in 2002 she worked
at an advertising agency in Rhode Island. In 2006 she re-
turned to Latin America, first living in Buenos Aires,
Argentina
before moving to Asuncin, Paraguay. She credits her mother
for instilling in her a love of Paraguay, and the memories
from
her childhood visits to Paraguay greatly influenced her
desire
to write a guidebook about this unique country.
