William MITCHELTREE Sr. , born abt 1790, Ireland; married Mary Margaret MCKNIGHT, abt 1825, possibly Ireland; died bef 14 Nov 1864, Allegheny Township, Westmoreland Co, Pennsylvania. +3 ii. James MITCHELTREE , born 1797, Ireland; died 30 May 1860, Pennsylvania. Second Generation 2. William MITCHELTREE Sr. 1,2 (-1) was born about 1790 in Ireland. 3,4 Possibly in County Tyrone, Ireland. Not proven. He lived in Allegheny Township, Westmoreland Co, Pennsylvania in 1860. 5 He appeared in the census on 16 Jul 1860 in Allegheny Township, Westmoreland Co, Pennsylvania. 6 William died before 14 Nov 1864 at the age of 74 in Allegheny Township, Westmoreland Co, Pennsylvania. 7 From Mitcheltree message board on Ancestry.com posted 15 Mar 2003 by gerald20watkins210: " The Mitcheltree’s were in Scotland sometime in the 1500’s and about 1600, migrated to Ireland. “A great migration to Northern Ireland began in the 1600’s & the new settlers were English, Scottish Presbyterians, Welsh and other Europeans. England ruled Ireland and government policy and frequent hardships molded the new settlers into a hardened, determined and secretive race, who left few records of their lives on the Green Island. The Mitcheltree’s settled in Rahack Townland, Clogher Barony, Aghalurcher Parish, County Tyrone, Ireland." Also in the Mercer County, PA Archives, Vol 2 (compiled by Mark S. Painter), page 71 are some Mitcheltree naturalizations (not determined as our branch) that indicate they were born in County Tyrone, Ireland. 1 Marriage License for Joseph Mitcheltree and Mary J. Woolslayer (Orphan's Court Westmoreland County, PA. Application for license dated 28 May 1894. # 7177.
