ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

With the initiative of the then Hon’ble Chief Minister, Sri

Burugula Rama Krishna Rao and under the auspices of Nagarjuna

Educational Committee headed by the then Collector of Nalgonda,

this college, under the name of anomniscient Acharya Nagarjuna,

Nagarjuna Govt. College came into being in 1956. The history of the

department of Urdu begins with the same year. Since then the

department has been playing its spontaneous role in the onward

march of the institution.

Nagarjuna Government Degree College was established in

1956. The department was started along with the college in

1956. The introduction of the B.A Regular course in Urdu medium

and the department has been teaching Urdu as Second Language

to all the classes of B.A/B.Com/B.Sc first and second years.

Presently student from all groups I & II years are studying

Urdu as second language the performance of the students in the

both semester’s examinations has been satisfactory and the

percentage is around 95.

Despite low performance at entry level the students are well

taught and encouragement to overcome the difficulties by

arranging the students seminars, Guest lectures and conducting

test.

All the beginning of the academic year the faculty of the

department prepared annual academic plan by dividing the

syllabus month wise and unit wise to the extent of working days

available in each month, periodical review of the teaching schedule

is done at department. Teaching synopsis prepared well in

advance and teaching diaries are maintained by the faculty to

record the teaching activity of the day. The department has

planned to complete the prescribed syllabus as per annual

academic plan and teach.

The N.G. College turned autonomous in 2007-2008, after

achieving the NAAC B++ grade. The DOT rose to the occasion and

introduced new modules of Learning in the Urdu Subject, to further

the interest of students in their mother tongue.

CURRICULAM ASPECTS

SEMESTER SYSTEM:

The college follows semester system of academic

instruction and examination.

The details of which are as follows:

➢ There will be two semesters in each academic year

➢ There will be final examination at end of each semester

➢ There will be no detention at the end of first and third

semesters.

➢ There will be detention at the end of second & fourth

semesters. If a student fails in more than 50% of the total

papers of first and second semesters. If a student fails to

obtain more than 25% aggregate of semesters put together

he/she will be detained at end of fourth semester.

INTERNAL ASSESSMENT

Students are required to write two internal assessment

tests in each paper as part of continuous internal evaluation.

The students have to write compulsory two internal

assessments in each paper and the best out of two will be

taken into account for the end examination result.

END EXAMINATION (EACH SEMESTER)

The maximum marks in theory paper in each subject in

each paper are 70 and for internal assessment 30. The student

has to get a minimum of 40 marks out of 100 (70+30).

REMEDIAL CLASSES & STUDY PROJECTS

The department conducts remedial classes to slow learners.

The advanced learners are encouraged to participate in seminars.

EXTENSION LECTURES / GUEST LECTURES

The department conducts Guest Lecturers to students by

inviting experts from various colleges and organizations to expose the

students to the latest trends in their subjects.

EVALUATION

Apart from internal assessments continues evaluation of

students is done through Unit Test/Assignments and Question

answer sessions.

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Apart from the regular curriculum the department conducts

various competitions and Essay writing, Elocution etc. The model

question papers are prepared and supplied to the student.

VISION, MISSION AND OBJECTIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT

Vision : To impart knowledge of Urdu, its literature and culture

among the society.

Mission : To expertise the students in Urdu with 21st Century

Challenges and make them competitive in all fields.

Objectives :Department's objective is to expertise the students

in Urdu writing, reading and the art of expression

in prose and poetry. It aims to spread awareness

about literary and cultural importance and relevance

of the language, literature and Culture in India and

around the world. ...

Department of Urdu provides language based Knowledge

and skills to the students to shape them in the present

day demands of Urdu language proficiency in the fields

of Information Technology, Urdu DTP, Journalism in

print and electronic media and script writing etc.
