Courses Offered

• 3-year undergraduate programme (annual scheme)

• Eligibility: Students who have passed class 12th or

intermediate under the scheme (10+2) with a minimum of

50% marks in aggregate

• This programme is designed to introduce the students to

fundamentals of Economics and train them to apply this

knowledge towards critical appraisal of real-world problems.

• Core subjects: Microeconomics, Macroeconomics,

Mathematical Methods for Economics, History of Economic

Thought, Indian Economy, International Economics,

Development Economics, Statistical Methods, Public

Finance.

• Subsidiary subjects offered: Psychology, Political Science,

English Literature, Public Administration, Sociology and

History. (Note: Students are required to choose any 1

subsidiary subject.)

• Electives offered: Environmental Economics, Introductory

Econometrics, Computer Applications in Economics

B.A. Economics (Hons.)• 2-year postgraduate programme (annual scheme)

• Eligibility: Students who have completed under graduation

in any discipline with a minimum of 50% in aggregate.

• This programme is designed to develop a deeper

understanding of advanced economic theories, analysis of

economic data and a strong understanding of emerging

areas in Economics along with a dissertation to develop

research acumen.

• Core subjects: Microeconomic theory, Macroeconomic

Theory, Quantitative Methods in Economics, Public Finance,

International Economics, Development Economics,

Advanced Indian Economy.

• Electives offered: Mathematical Economics, Environmental

Economics, Indian Banking System, International Finance,

Survey Methods

· 3-year undergraduate programme (annual scheme)

· Eligibility: Students who have passed class 12th or intermediate under the scheme (10+2) with a minimum of

50% marks in aggregate.

· This programme offers a combination of three subjects (Economics and 2 electives). It allows the students to

choose electives matching their interests along with strong foundations in Economics.

· Subject combinations: Economics (Electives: English, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Public

Administration, History)

B.A. Pass course

M.A. Economics

The department offers three courses in Economics: B.A. Pass Course, B.A. Economics

(Hons.) and M.A. Economics. These programmes have been designed to understand the

interaction between economy and society; consider economic problems from a global

perspective and take a local approach towards solving them; gauge the implications of

economic policy among others.

The department offers various certif icate courses every session for developmentof addit ional research and analytical skil ls among the students. The departmentalso identif ies courses on the SWAYAM platform (digital platform for onlinecourses init iated by Government of India) for i ts students. These offer ourstudents the opportunity to participate in carefully curated programmes offered byvarious Universit ies. Some of the programmes offered previously are:

Summer School on “Applied Economics”: This course wi l l a im to introduce students

perspect ive.

ACTIVITIESDEPARTMENT

Synergy National SymposiumSynergy is the Annual National Economics Festival

organized by the department every year. Undoubtedly the

biggest event of the Department, the events in the 2-day

fest span across Conclave, academic activities and

cultural events. These events are organized by the

students themselves through organizing committees

such as Public Relations, Marketing, Admin, Technical,

Digital Outreach, Hospitality among others. Over the

years, Synergy has been based on themes such as

Virtualisation of ideas (2020), Say NO to single use

plastic (2019).

Research is the creation of knowledge and the

Symposium provides a platform to students to show

their creativity in research. It attracts research papers

from students across India on various themes. Some of

the themes of the Symposium in previous years were:

· Looking through intermediate lenses: Inclusive and

green growth

· Sustainable Development Goals: A critical analysis

Apart from Synergy and Symposium being the f lagship events of the department, variousother activit ies are organized as well . These include orientation programme, studentexchange programme, research workshops, guest lectures, mental health drives,department picnic, Ek Abhilasha – donation drive etc.

Iexplore in the f ield of research on economics and related issues. Apartfrom tradit ional teaching, the research environment is also needed todevelop crit ical thinking amongst the students. Thus, research plays animportant role in developing the knowledge quotient of the students. Thejournal gives them a platform where students can publish their originalresearch ideas related to economics or any relevant area of study.

rthika is an annually published student-centric magazine, crafted by the Astudents of the Department of Economics. The f irst edit ion was released in2012. I t showcases the creative innovative ideas, l i terary skil ls,achievements, talents, and glimpse of the activit ies and events organizedby the department during an academic year. I t is a platform to expresscreative innovative ideas of students in the form of art icles, poems, art ,photography, etc.

r. Sapna Newar Library has been established in the year 2021 in memory of late Dr. Sapna Newar, Assistant Professor and former Head, Department ofEconomics, St. Xavier’s College, Jaipur. The goal of the department library is toprovide vast reference material and knowledge to the students without burdeningthe college library. The library is growing by accepting donations of valuable booksand e-books by students and alumni.

The department has started three scholarships in memory and honour of Dr. SapnaNewar for its students from the academic session 2021-22. These are:

1. Research Scholarship: Students at Undergraduate level who are undertakingresearch projects in the field of agricultural economics, development economics andinternational economics will be eligible for the scholarship.

2. Merit-based scholarship: Students of second-year who have secured highestmarks in first-year and students of third-year who have secured highest marks insecond-year will be eligible for the scholarship.

3. Need-based scholarship: Students belonging to Economically Weaker Sectionswith family income below Rs. 2.5 lakh per annum will be eligible for the scholarship.Students should also have 75% or above in senior secondary examination.
