Welcome to the 2017 edit ion of the Case Western Reserve University, Weatherhead School of Management 's Department of Accountancy newsletter! This July marks the fourth year of my service as Chair of the Department of Accountancy. A great many changes have occurred in that t ime. We?re experiencing record enrollments in both our Master of Accountancy and our B.S. in Accounting programs among many other things. I hope you enjoy this year?s edit ion of our newsletter, which contains updates on our faculty, the 2016 Braden Award, our 2017 Alum of the Year, student achievements and much more. I made mention of this last year, but 2018 will mark our 90th year of offering high quality accounting education here at CWRU; we will have a special recognit ion for this milestone at Beta Alpha Psi Awards banquet in April 2018;

perhaps you could plan to join us on campus! Speaking of Beta Alpha Psi, the nat ional accounting honorary society? Beta Alpha Psi will award our own Professor Karen Braun with the Beta Alpha Psi Professional of the Year? Education recognit ion at the 2018 Beta Alpha Psi National Conference. We are proud of all of our faculty members no doubt, and this award to Karen recognizes her unique contribut ions to the Department, School, University and the professional. Zimmerman received the Outstanding Dissertat ion Award from the American Accounting Associat ion in August last year. This is also a tremendous achievement and we?re very proud of Ally. CAQ and AAA Audit ing Section Announce Awards for Access to Audit Personnel Program

Washington, DC - The Center for Audit Quality (CAQ) and the Audit ing Sect ion of the American Accounting Associat ion (AAA) announced three awards for the Access to Audit Personnel Program, which connects academics with audit pract it ioners to part icipate in research projects.

?We?re pleased to assist researchers again this year by linking them with study part icipants from CAQ member firms,? said CAQ Executive Director Cindy Fornelli. ?Academic research is a vital tool for the profession as we work to cont inuously improve audit quality for the benefit of investors and our capital markets.?

Of the proposals received in 2017, the review committee selected three projects to support, including Cassandra Estep's, Emory University, Mit igat ing the Unintended Consequences of Material Weakness Report ing on Auditors? Acceptance of Aggressive Client Report ing (with Anthony Bucaro, Case Western Reserve University; and Tim Bauer, University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana).

The Access to Audit Personnel Program will connect these researchers with 400 audit staff and managers at CAQ Governing Board firms: BDO, Crowe, Deloit te, EY, Grant Thornton, KPMG, PwC, and RSM. Now in the program?s fifth year, the CAQ and the AAA Audit ing Sect ion have supported 19 academic projects and provided access to 4,566 audit pract it ioners for research.

Comedian George Carlin spoofed sports broadcast ing with the line, ?Here?s a part ial score: Notre Dame 6.? The joke reminds us how scores are meaningless without comparisons to peer organizat ions measured with accepted rules. The recent proliferat ion of earnings figures that deviate from U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) harkens back to Carlin?s joke and threatens the usefulness of U.S. financial report ing. Use of these ?non-GAAP? numbers confounds investors? ability to compare companies? results. Imagine trying to evaluate a score if one team cites touchdowns while the opponent talks about runs.

One of the dependable controversies of the American president ial elect ion season is the t iming and release of the candidates' tax returns.

This year, both Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and businessman Donald Trump faced crit icism when they didn't release their tax returns in a t imely fashion. (As of mid-September, Trump st ill had not released his).

Nearly all major party president ial nominees since 1976 have released some form of their tax returns? even though there's no law compelling them to do so. Voters simply expect it .

This American ideal of financial disclosure offers a window into our country's cultural values, explained Case Western Reserve Dist inguished University Professor Gary Previts, PhD, co-author of the seminal History of Accountancy in the United States and a founding member and the first president of the Academy of Accounting Historians.

Tim Fogarty and Gary Previts lead the doctoral/ new faculty consort ium at the 2017 Ohio AAA Sect ion Midyear Meeting

The day before the start of the 2017 Ohio AAA Sect ion Midyear Meeting in Columbus, Ohio, Tim Fogarty and Gary Previts led the Doctoral/ New Faculty Consort ium to provide part icipants with unique and small sett ings to network and interact with each other and senior researchers and teachers. The sessions in the Consort ium were open to all meeting attendees, but were tailored specifically to doctoral students and new faculty who are at the beginning of their careers. All together, 16 PhD students from Ohio schools part icipated in the day- long sessions.

Department says goodbye to John Keyser, but fortunately not ent irely

At the end of the 2016-2017 academic year, John Keyser decided to return to the corporate side of the profession full- t ime, but will not completely give up his academic pursuits. John will be working in the National Office of Risk Management of RSM and will be RSM's representat ive on the CAQ's Research Advisory Board and the Access to Professionals Group. In addit ion, he will also serve as a reviewer for Research in Accounting Regulat ion. In the spring, John will return to campus to teach Advanced Audit ing.

Best wishes to John and we look forward to seeing you back on campus in the spring!

Mr. Herz shared some reflections on his career in the accounting profession, why what we do is so important to the capital markets, the economy, and society, the new frontier in report ing including ?Integrated Report ing? and sustainability report ing, and closed by offering suggestions to students about how to enter the profession.

Mr. Herz?s current activit ies include serving on the boards of directors and various board committees of Fannie Mae (Chairman of Audit Committee), Morgan Stanley (Chairman of Audit Committee), Workiva Inc. , itBit Trust Company, and the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board, on the Independent Investment Committee of UNOPS, on the advisory boards of AccountAbility, Becker Professional Education, and the Manchester Business School in England, as an Ambassador for the International Integrated

Report ing Council, and as a member of the Audit Committee Chair Advisory Council of the National Association of Corporate Directors. He is also an executive in residence and member of the faculty of the Columbia Business School and serves on the Standing Advisory Group of the U.S. Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, the Financial Report ing Faculty Advisory Group of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, and the Accounting Standards Oversight Council of Canada. Mr. Herz also provides consult ing services on financial report ing and other matters through Robert H. Herz LLC, of which he is President.

Previously, Robert Herz was Chairman of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) from 2002 to 2010. He was also one of the original members of the International Accounting Standards Board. He was a partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers for many years, including serving as audit partner on numerous major companies, as head of the firm?s Corporate Finance Advisory Services, as senior technical partner, as member of the firm?s U.S. and Global Boards, and as President of the Coopers & Lybrand and PricewaterhouseCoopers foundations. He has chaired a number of professional committees, including the IFAC Transnational Auditors Committee and the AICPA SEC Regulations Committee, has served on numerous public policy commissions, and testified many t imes at Congressional hearings. He was also previously a Trustee and Vice Chair of the Kessler Foundation.

Mr. Herz has authored or coauthored 6 books and over 50 art icles and published papers and is a frequent speaker at major financial report ing and business conferences. He is a member of the Accounting Hall of Fame.

Andy joined Deloitte in New York City 28 years ago and currently serves as Advisory Partner in Deloitte & Touche LLP. He is a senior member of the firm?s Special Acquisit ion Services Group (SAS) and leads its NY Advisory (Accounting) team. SAS comprises cross- functional teams throughout major global cit ies and primarily serves the needs of one of the world?s leading global alternative asset managers.

Prior to joining SAS in 1997, Andy spent 7 years in Deloitte?s Tri-State Audit practice focusing on audits of large SEC registrants in various industries. In 2006, he was seconded to Hong Kong where he spent 5 years serving as Managing Director and Leader of the SAS Group in the Asia Pacific region. During his t ime in the region, he teamed with Deloitte?s local resources in 10 different geographies and lead over 75 transactions. He returned to New York in 2011.

In addit ion to his various domestic and international leadership responsibilit ies, Andy currently focuses on leading complex transactions and cross-border acquisit ions for certain large private equity funds. Over the course of the last 20 years in SAS, Andy has worked on almost 200 different transactions that span various industries in 20 different countries and 5 continents. Andy also focuses on helping private equity owned portfolio companies and the Deloitte teams responsible for these companies with both their ongoing tax, audit transactions as well as other business needs such as M&A, IPOs, debt refinancing, special dividends to name a few.

Born and raised in the New York City metropolitan area, Andy holds a B.S. in Accounting from Case Western Reserve University and a M.B.A. from Columbia University School of Business. Andy is a Cert ified Public Accountant (C.P.A.), a member of the American Institute of Cert ified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of Cert ified Public Accountants. In addit ion to his involvement in various local and community organizations and activit ies, Andy served for many years as advisor to the Case Western Reserve Admissions Program. Andy is based in New York and resides in Westchester County with his wife Lynne, (a Case Alumnus), their two teenage daughters Kara and Elizabeth, and son Andrew (12). Kara is currently completing her first year at Elon University. Andy enjoys golf and spends t ime with his family traveling, cooking, fishing and boating.

Beta Alpha Psi- The Best is Yet to Be!

The Pi chapter started the year with a strategic plan by gathering stakeholder feedback, creat ing a Strength Weakness Opportunity Threat (SWOT) analysis, and planning the year with goals and object ives. The strategic planning helped the chapter win second place at the regional Best Pract ices Competit ion in Indianapolis, IN. The fall and spring "rush weeks" helped students learn about BAP and the importance of personal and professional development as early as their freshman year. In the fall semester, the chapter hosted the annual "Meet the Accountants Breakfast" which was attended by over 150 students and 23 firms. During the 2016-2017 school year, the chapter organized a total of 22 chapter meetings and 23 volunteering events. Students were exposed to a variety of professional and service opportunit ies that helped them develop soft skills and prepared them for employment. The spring semester came to a close in April with the 86th annual awards banquet in which students, faculty, and professionals joined together to celebrate the achievements of so many excellent accounting students.

Some other highlights of the year included the following:

- The Pi chapter held its first fundraiser "Pi the Professor". The event brought together accounting professors and students and raised a total of $200 for charity.

- Members attended and presented at the spring Regional Meeting in Indianapolis and at the summer National Meeting in Anaheim California.

- The chapter held networking social events with professionals, such as the Deloit te Bowling event.

- The chapter created BAP Professional Groups, which cater to students' specific career interest divided into industry, audit , tax, government/ nonprofit , internal audit , corporate report ing, and other. The program is intended to help BAP students learn more about a specific profession by meeting others students and professionals with the same interests.

- BAP members visited the Sherwin Williams Center for Excellence to attend an exclusive tour of its downtown headquarters. Students learned about Sherwin-Williams' history, heard a presentat ion from executives from the accounting and departments, and learned about career opportunit ies.

- The chapter cont inued to build its membership, current ly a total of 72 members & candidates.- Mentor-mentee program strengthened relat ionships between members.- The chapter nominated professor Karen Braun for the IMA Business Information Professional

of the Year Award (in the education category). Professor Braun will be accepting the award in August at the National BAP Meeting.

MAYSA BASOUDANMaysa Basoudan is a second year PhD student with interests in forensic accounting and gender issues in accounting. She holds a bachelor?s degree in accounting from King Saud University in Saudi Arabia and a Master of Accountancy from Case Western Reserve University. After receiving her B.S., Maysa worked in the banking industry for three years and then decided to move into academia where she taught several undergraduate accounting courses. Maysa was eventually awarded a scholarship from the Saudi Arabian government to pursue her graduate studies in the United States. Maysa, her husband, and their three sons live in Cleveland and are enjoying the experience of living abroad and interact ing with people from different cultures.

ERICA (SACKETT) NEUMANErica Neuman earned her Bachelor?s in Accounting from Case Western Reserve University and her Master of Accountancy from University of Notre Dame in 2013 and 2014, respect ively. Erica joined the Accounting PhD program in Fall 2016. Prior to entering the program, Erica was a tax consultant at Deloit te in Cleveland. Erica is a CPA, and is a member of the AAA and of the AICPA. She recently served as a reviewer for the Ohio Regional AAA Conference and attended the Behavioral Tax Symposium in May and the AAA Annual Meeting in August. Erica?s research interests include individual tax compliance and the taxpayer advocacy role of tax preparers. In her free t ime, Erica enjoys running and traveling with her husband.

ROBERT SHEURobert Sheu is a 2011 graduate of Michigan State University with an undergraduate degree in Accounting. He also completed his MAcc at MSU and graduated in 2012. His brief four-year career as a CPA was spent in public accounting. During his t ime in public accounting, he worked at Post, Smythe, Lutz, and Ziel (PSLZ) a local accounting firm in Plymouth, MI. Robert has experience in accounting for small businesses, individual and corporate taxat ion, and audits of local governments. Robert began the PhD program in Fall 2016 and in May 2016 presented his paper ?An Origin Invest igat ion: Events and Groups that Shaped the Formation of the PCAOB? at the Ohio AAA conference. His current research interests include audit ing, accounting education, accounting regulat ion, and accounting history.

AZZAM ALSUHAIBANIAzzam Alsuhaibani completed his second year at the PhD in Accounting program and finished the coursework. Azzam part icipated in the AAA Annual Meeting held in August 2016 at New York City. Early in the summer, Azzam presented his paper ?The Development of Academic Research Regarding Relat ions Between External Auditors and Internal Auditors in the United States During the Period 1941 ? 2016" at the Ohio AAA meeting held in May 2017 at Columbus, Ohio. At the conference, Azzam part icipated as a reviewer and as a discussant. This summer Azzam is working on his qualifying paper to pass into the candidacy stage of the PhD in Accounting program.

JILL CADOTTEJill Cadotte completed her third year in the Accounting PhD program. At the May 2017 Ohio AAA meeting, she presented a paper as well as part icipated as a reviewer and discussant. Jill was a doctoral consort ium fellow at the AAA Deloit te Foundation J. Michael Cook Doctoral Consort ium in June. She will present her paper ?The Advert ising Pract ices of Ernst & Ernst? at the Annual AAA meeting in San Diego in August.

MARY SASMAZMary Sasmaz is in the PhD Candidacy stage of the PhD program. She has current research projects focused on individual income tax compliance and work life balance in public accounting firms. Mary expects to complete her PhD program this school year and looks forward to the next stage of professorship. Mary cont inues to have research interests in taxat ion, family wealth transfer, family business, work- life balance, and mentoring.


The Ohio Society of CPAs Accounting Ambassador programThis year, Andrew Rossman filled the role as Weatherhead?s Accounting Ambassador. Since its inception in 2002, the Student Ambassador Program has introduced thousands of Ohio college students to the opportunit ies and benefits that come with an accounting degree. Student Ambassadors employ the power of peer- to-peer networking to reach students who have not yet

declared a major with information about accounting and the CPA profession.

The Student Ambassador Program operates at 18 universit ies. With the help of the Ambassadors, students have a better understanding of rewarding career opportunit ies that come with an accounting degree and the benefits of becoming a CPA.

2017 Wolstein Society inductees include nine accounting studentsWeatherhead News, Posted 9.23.16

On September 22, 2016 the eleventh class of Weatherhead undergraduate students was inducted into the Wolstein Society, nine of the nineteen inductees were accounting majors. The Wolstein Society recognizes outstanding undergraduate students in their senior year who represent the spirit of enterprise as demonstrated by leadership, scholarship, community service and professional will.

The 2017 Wolstein Society inductees represent the true meaning and character of the Wolstein Society. Not only are these students excelling in the classroom, they are also making a posit ive impact on campus and in the community. These students are act ive members of Alpha Kappa Psi, Beta Alpha Psi, Greek Life, Varsity Athlet ics, and many more organizat ions. This year?s inductees include members of the varsity baseball, cross country, football, soccer, tennis, and track and field teams. They have held leadership posit ions across campus and every inductee demonstrated their commitment to professional will by having at least one internship during their t ime at Weatherhead.

The future is bright for these students as they are planning to start their careers at firms including Deloit te, KPMG, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and RaveNectar. Also, several inductees plan on cont inuing their education in graduate school.

CWRU? s Broujos selected to receive NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

Case Western Reserve University senior men?s soccer player Zach Broujos (Pit tsburgh, Pa./ Pit tsburgh Central Catholic) was selected to receive one of the 58 prest igious Fall NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships awarded to fall sport athletes across all three divisions of the NCAA for their excellence both academically and athlet ically, along with their leadership and community involvement. Broujos is the 25th CWRU athlete ever to win the scholarship, and the second in the history of the men?s soccer program. The NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship is awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athlet ically, and are in their final year of intercollegiate athlet ics competit ion. The Associat ion awards up to 174 postgraduate scholarships annually, 87 for men and 87 for women. This season's NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipients (29 men, 29 women) represent fall sports part icipants, who will receive one- t ime, nonrenewable grants of $7,500 to be used for graduate study. Broujos was a key member of the Spartans? defense during his senior campaign in 2016, serving as a team captain. He is a two-t ime All-University Athlet ic Associat ion honoree, earning a select ion to the First Team this past season, after claiming an honorable mention as a junior, in addit ion to being named to the OCSA All-Ohio Third Team in 2016. Over the course of his career, he played in 69 games and made 66 starts, recording a goal and three assists for five points. Academically, Broujos has a 3.781 cumulat ive grade point average as an accounting major with a minor in finance. He is a three- t ime UAA All-Academic honoree, while also earning Dean?s List select ion during his t ime at CWRU, and is on pace to claim a spot on the UAA Presidents? Scholar-Athlete Team this season.

Ruolin (Zoe) Yang receives PCAOB scholarship for 2017-2018

Under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, monetary penalt ies imposed by the PCAOB must be used to fund merit scholarships for students in accredited accounting degree programs. The Board has established the PCAOB scholarship program to provide a source of funding to encourage outstanding undergraduate and graduate students to pursue a career in audit ing.

Next year is the PCAOB's seventh year grant ing scholarships.

"Over the years, the academic achievements of more than 400 students have been recognized through this program," said PCAOB Chairman James R. Doty. "We hope this recognit ion inspires future accountants to become leaders in audit for the benefit of investors."

5 questions with? La Alianza President, senior Xavier Murillothe Daily, September 30, 2016

Xavier Murillo has a passion for stories.

He?s not a writer by trade; numbers are more his forte (he?s a senior accounting major who just interned for the Chilean Ministry of Finance). But hearing people?s stories? and sharing his own? drives Murillo.

After moving from Central California to Alabama in high school, Murillo went from a predominantly Mexican community to one in which he was among four Lat inos in his ent ire school. So he took that opportunity to listen to? and understand? the perspect ives of different people in his new home.

When Murillo came to Case Western Reserve as a first-year student in 2013, he struggled to adjust to campus life. So he sought out people whose stories might resonate with him.

So Murillo became involved in La Alianza, then a relat ively small organizat ion for Lat ino students. He also became a resident assistant, in hopes that he could share his experiences with students so they could grow from hearing his stories and reflect ing on their own.

This powerful connect ion he made with his peers spurred Murillo and others to determine and strengthen the future of La Alianza so it better reflected the needs and presence of Lat ino students at Case Western Reserve.

Each year, he?s taken on increasing responsibilit ies and leadership roles in the organizat ion? from treasurer as a sophomore to vice president as a junior and now president as a senior. The organizat ion has grown significant ly in just four years? both in terms of size and impact.

Through La Alianza, Murillo works to create a social and academic support network for Lat ino students, serve the Greater Cleveland community, and celebrate and raise awareness of Lat ino culture across Case Western Reserve.

?Seeing a reflect ion of my story in other people really made me think about how there are many of us going through similar journeys of figuring out college by ourselves,? he said. ?As a community, we can mentor each other during our undergraduate career and as we transit ion into life after college. I think it is also important that alumni stay connected and give back to our community.?

All-around athlete: men? s swimmer Andrew Henning selected for prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

Andrew Henning never considered himself the star athlete on the Case Western Reserve University men?s swimming and diving team. But during his four years with the team, he knows that he developed into an all-around student-athlete: a strong swimmer, an even stronger student and an individual who is dedicated to serving the community. And now, he?s being recognized for all three of those qualit ies.

Henning, who graduated in May, received one of the prest igious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, which recognizes a student-athlete?s athlet ic and academic success and community service. Representat ives from Case Western Reserve nominate student-athletes for the award. The honor makes Henning the second Spartan athlete this year to win the scholarship (the other was men?s soccer player and accounting major Zach Broujos) and the 26th in university history. Henning is only the second member of the men?s swimming and diving team to earn the award, with Guy Genin claiming the scholarship in 1990.

?The scholarship is such a big thing; it recognizes achievements in mult iple different categories? it?s like the ideal student-athlete,? Henning said. ?It?s a huge honor. I?m very thankful for it? to be recognized for all the things that I?ve done.?

In addit ion to his achievements in the pool, Henning claimed All-UAA All-Academic honors during each of his three years of eligibility for the honor. He graduated with a 3.97 cumulat ive GPA while majoring in accounting.

Now, Henning is working toward a master?s degree in accounting at CWRU. He ant icipates complet ing the degree in December, and plans to put the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship?s $7,500 grant toward tuit ion.


Thania Arizmendi on winning team for case competition

This year, Thania Arizmendi, an undergraduate accounting student at Weatherhead, part icipated on the first place winning team of the case competit ion at the 9th Annual KeyBank and Fisher College of Business Leadership & Creat ivity Undergraduate Minority Student Symposium.

This three-day event, held at The Ohio State University, provided undergraduate business and engineering students with an intensive camp on leadership, creat ivity, product innovation, spreadsheet management, entrepreneurial thinking, persuasive communicat ion, and the art of "putt ing it all together."

Rahmadi Murwanto (MAcc '01, MBA '01), Director of Politeknik Keuangan Negara STAN

Direct ly following his inaugurat ion on December 16, 2016, Director of PKN STAN, Rahmadi Murwanto was given a special mission by the Minister of Finance to immediately make major changes in PKN STAN. "I would like in the near future the Director of PKN STAN to deliver ambit ious and deeply rooted reform and reform plans," said the Minister. Thus, as the new director he had no choice but to immediately implement reforms in the body of PKN STAN.

The father of two sons was born in Metro on March 13, 1970. He received Diploma III and Diploma IV Accounting at State College of Accountancy (STAN) and an Accountant degree was awarded in 1997. He received his Master of Accountancy and MBA in 2001 from the Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University and in 2010 he earned his Ph.D. irom Victoria University,

New Zealand.

Rahmadi started his career in 1991 at the Ministry of Finance's Education and Training Agency (BPLK) and has held several posit ions in the Secretariat of the Agency and Pusdiklat. In 2003, his first posit ion was as Head of the Organizat ion Sub-Division of BPPK Secretariat. In 2011, Rahmadi was promoted to an echelon III officer at Pusdiklat Bea and Cukai as Head of Evaluat ion and Performance Report ing. Three years later, he becomes Head of Organizat ion and Administrat ion Division of BPPK Secretariat and on December 16, 2016 he was promoted to Director of PKN STAN.

Devon (Worrell) Konikow's (BS '08/ MAcc '08) career highlighted by Deloitte

The work you do matters. The people you work with matter just as much or more. Devon Konikow knows this well. She started at Deloit te back in 2007 when her cousin, who worked at another of the Big 4 public accounting organizat ions, submitted her resume to his friend at Deloit te. ?I got a call from a Deloit te recruiter, but I didn't even know they had my resume. It went well though. I got the internship.?

Following that, she took a full- t ime posit ion with Deloit te in Seatt le.

5 questions with? international sorority leader, senior Keniece Graythe Daily, September 16, 2016

The decision to pursue membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) Sorority Inc. was a natural one for Keniece Gray.

Many of her family members and mentors were involved in Alpha Kappa Alpha, which is the first the first Greek- letter sorority established by African-American women (in 1908).

Today, the sorority remains committed to init iat ives on which it was founded: cult ivat ing high scholast ic and ethical standards, promoting unity and friendship amongst college women, leadership development, and implementing programs internat ionally to make a posit ive global impact.

But it was the organizat ion?s emphasis on bettering the Greater Cleveland community through service that most moved Gray, a nat ive Clevelander and an avid volunteer.

?I really care about uplift ing the community and leadership development. Alpha Kappa Alpha is my platform to serve,? said Gray, who is in an undergraduate in the accelerated/ integrated masters of accountancy program at the Weatherhead School of Management. ?If I can use that platform to make the city even better, or do even greater things, I want to do that.?

This summer, after campaigning for months and giving a speech at Alpha Kappa Alpha?s 67th bi-annual meeting in At lanta, Gray was elected to serve on the directorate as the internat ional second vice-president.

7th Annual Chinese New Year party & Valentine's Day celebration

On February 11th, the department held its 7th annual Chinese New Year party and this year combined it with a Valent ine's Day celebrat ion. As usual, the department selected local restaurant, Li Wah, to prepare an array of delicious tradit ional Chinese dishes from potst ickers to steamed buns and picked up Valent ine's Day treats and candies from local bakeries. We had another strong turnout and the party was a success for the department, bringing together both domestic and internat ional students from both the undergraduate and graduate accounting programs, as well as faculty and staff.

On Saturday, May 20, 2017, on the lower level of the Peter B. Lewis Building, the Department of Accountancy held a hooding ceremony for MAcc students the day before commencement. Faculty, staff, students, family and friends were all on hand to part icipate and to enjoy light refreshments.

Not sure what a hooding ceremony is?

The Hooding Ceremony is a special recognit ion ceremony for masters or doctoral degree candidates. During the ceremony, a faculty member places the doctoral hood over the head of the graduate, signifying their success in complet ing the graduate program.
