In 1888 the great Oliver Heaviside first predicted theoretically
a conical radiation when a point charge (an electron) moves
uniformly and rectilinearly both in the ether and in a
nondispersive medium with a speed higher than the speed of light in
this medium.
P.A. Cerenkov (1934-1937) studied the light in many transparent
media irradiated with radiation from uranium. Only the exhaustive
experiments of P.A. Cerenkov characterized completely this new kind
of radiation. A complete theory of the Cerenkov radiation was
developed by I.E. Tamm and I.M. Frank in 1937.

In 1971, in his Doctoral Thesis [9], D. B. Ion developed a
general classical and quantum theory of the mesonic erenkov-like
radiation in hadronic media [see D. B. Ion, Mesonic erenkov-like
Effect as Possible Mechanism of Meson Production in Hadronic
Interactions, DSc Thesis, Bucharest University, 1971]. Predicted
completely all the properties of the pionic erenkov-like radiation
in the case when the pionic refractive index is given by a single
pole approximation. Obtained a good agreement with the integrated
cross section of the single meson production in the hadronic
collisions (see D. B. Ion and F. Nichitiu, Nucl. Phys. B 29 (1971)
547-556).

An experimental test of the SR can be obtained using RICH
detectors. For this accurate measurements of the SR-ring radius are
needed As is well known, in an usual RICH detector a spherical
mirror focuses all photons emitted at a erenkov angle along the
particle trajectory at the same radius on the focal plane. Photon
sensitive detectors placed at the focal plane detect the resulting
ring image. Then, a fundamental test of SR can be based on
