Dr. Nestor Cohenca, a well-known expert in dental traumatology, will show you the latest approaches to prevent, diagnose and treat traumatic injuries to teeth and supporting tissues. You will come away from this course more confident about your ability to: 1) identify the severity of the injury, 2) determine an initial diagnosis, 3) establish a treatment plan, and 4) manage dental trauma in your practice. You will also be updated on current therapeutic approaches for immature necrotic teeth, including pulp revascularization. OBJECTIVES As a result of attending this course, you will be able to: • classify dental traumatic injuries. • implement the most recent, state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment modalities for crown and root fractures, luxations and avulsions. • discuss dentoalveolar traumatic injuries and their complications. • recognize effective strategies for the preservation and augmentation of the alveolar ridge for final prosthetic rehabilitation. • describe the concept of pulp revascularization for the treatment of immature teeth with necrotic pulps. EDUCATIONAL METHODS Illustrated lectures and discussions. ABOUT OUR GUEST SPEAKER Nestor Cohenca, D.D.S. Dr. Cohenca currently serves as an Affiliate Professor at the University of Washington, Seattle Children’s Hospital and maintains a private practice limited to Endodontics in Bellevue and Everett, WA. He com- pleted the endodontic program at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and then served 11 years on faculty at the school while maintaining a private practice limited to endodontics. From 2003 to 2005, Dr. Cohenca served as a Clinical Assistant Professor and Coordinator of Trauma and Sports Dentistry at the University of Southern California. Thereafter, he joined the University of Washington where he completed his endodontic certificate in 2008 and served as Tenured Professor of Endodontics and Pediatric Dentistry from 2005-2014. Dr. Cohenca also served as Director of Endodontics and the Multidisciplinary Traumatology Unit at the School of Dentistry, the Center for Pediatric Dentistry and Seattle Children’s Hospital. He is a Diplomate of the Israel Board of Endodontics and the American Board of Endodontics. Dr. Cohenca is a Fellow of the International Association for Dental Traumatology (IADT) and currently serves as President-elect of the IADT. He has published more than 75 peer-reviewed articles, 8 chapters and a new book entitled Disinfection of Root Canal Systems: The Treatment of Apical Periodontitis.
