The SureLog™ tool family includes the iDNSC*. The iDNSC tool provides a bulk density image along with traditional bulk density, neutron porosity and PE curves. Tool standoff and hole cali-per measurements are also provided by a pair of ultrasonic transducers which can also be used to environmentally correct the neutron porosity curve.
iDNSC ToolThe iDNSC density imaging tool records data in an industry leading extra high density format on a large memory module to enable high quality well statistics for calculation of the bulk density curve and the bulk density image. The extra-high resolution imaging service extracts the detail contained in this large number of nuclear counts by a combination of various techniques pro-viding clarity in 128 sectors, a feature not yet seen on other on density images.
The extra-high resolution images clearly reveal faults and fractures along with internal features of reservoir rocks more closely associated with high resolution wireline tools and micro-electrode LWD imagers. A distinct advantage of the iDNSC tool over LWD micro-electrode type imagers is the ability to generate images in oil-based muds.
Applications of the extra-high resolution imaging tool include fault and fracture charac-terization, rock stress distribution, facies characterization and potential cleat and fracture characterization for optimum well placement in the reservoir, specifically in coal-bed-methane reservoirs.
The iDNSC tool can be configured to operate in drilling environments with temperatures to350 degF [175 degC] and pressures to 25,000 psi [172.4] MPa.
