JUNE 2018 HALE COUNTY 4-H HALE COUNTY 4-H NEWS BROUGHT TO YOU BY: Operation Serve WHAT IS OPERATION SERVE? Project summary: Annual collaborave effort of the City of Plainview, First United Methodist Church and other churches/organizaons in Plainview, which recruits volunteers to serve in the community. The goal of this day is to supply holisc opportunies in which every church, organizaon, and age group can ulize individual giſts/skills to personally aid in the development of the community. Opportuni- es range from baking/cooking, sewing, and vising assisted liv- ing centers, to yard work, house clean-up, small maintenance repairs, and other odd jobs that cizens in Plainview may not be able to physically or financially complete. Volunteers spend the day working these various projects and are encouraged to ulize this experience as a "spring board" for connual involvement in the community. City of Plainview joined forces with Operaon: Serve in 2015 in order to collaborate on a city-wide cleanup day to encourage all cizens to clean up their properes. Roll-off containers were setup in strategic locaons around town with volunteers availa- ble to help unload. Volunteers were also able to assist those that did not have the means to drop off their trash. The results were great with approximately 200 volunteers and 24.52 tons of trash, brush, and res being collected in one day. Project Descripon: Having a community clean-up day certainly is not unique in the world of municipalies. This is a key way cies can encourage their cizens to take pride in their community, their neighbor- hood, and their home. By providing ways to make it easier for cizens to parcipate, it makes the chance of strong parcipaon even beer. Plainview’s goal was to clean-up trash and debris found throughout town by providing opportunies for cizens to comply voluntarily versus using code enforcement and citaons.
