Demonstration

The demonstration method or “doing” method is one used to teach skills. This is a method of teaching that relies heavily upon showing the learner a model performance that he should match or pass after he has seen a presentation that is live, filmed or electronically operated.

Characteristics of the Demonstration Method

“We learn by doing”Students learn physical or mental skills by actually performing those skills under supervision

The instructor should;• Recognize the importance of student

performance in the learning process. • Identify the most important learning outcomes. • Explain and demonstrate the steps involved in

performing the skill being taught. • Allow students time to practice each step, so

they can increase their ability to perform the skill.

do following your demonstration?

3. Plan your preparation time• Plan for the time it takes to prepare props• Make a list of materials, tools/equipment or

props needed• Test equipment and methods etc. ahead of

time

4. Plan your steps and activities• Choose simple procedures• Consider the amount of pre-preparation

required• How long does it take to accomplish each step?• Do you need to prepare work stations, tools and
