Democratic Republic of Congo: Internally displaced persons and returnees (September 2015) Eastern DRC continues to be the theatre of a complex and protracted humanitarian crisis affecting at least 1.6 million IDPs, of whom 90% are displaced due to armed attacks and violence. With more than 744,000 IDPs, North Kivu remains the most affected province. In the last 18 months, the number of people who have returned home has significantly decreased, an indication of the persistent insecurity that is haunting thousands of families. Major humanitarian hotspots remain in various parts of the country, notably across the north eastern parts of the country. However, pervasive and acute vulnerability means that humanitarian needs may emerge across the country.
