Horsing Around in Delta
It’s a magical thing, that bond that occurs betweena child and their horse, something which wordscannot describe effectively, but you can recognizeimmediately. It becomes a core part of the child’sidentity, an amazing connection, a piece of completionfound through an unusual best friend- a large, lovingkind equine. Quietly whispered words of love intoa fuzzy perked ear, arms wrapped around the heavilymuscled neck, and the look in the horses eyes thatsays “ I love you, I understand you, and I totally acceptyou as you are.”There is an accepted truth amongst even the smallest
children of three who come out to our stables for theirweekly ride: their pony loves them the best, that he isthe best pony in the world, and that he would preferto sleep at the foot of his rider’s bed!” It’s not quiteenough to ride a pony, and not even to own a pony, but it might even be best to BE a pony! Many littlegirls and boys can be seen cantering around theirhouse, practicing jumping over furniture scatteredthroughout the living room. Riding day is always thehighlight of the week, with the clothes often laid outthe night before. As they grow up into an age of school stresses, and
greater awareness, into the world of structure andexpectations, riding takes on a different meaning: thechild arrives at the barn and immediately begins torelax and refocus, a whiskery kiss and a shaggy hugmakes manageable the problems of the school day.Confidence is rebuilt, and the child feels accepted inthe stables welcoming community: after the ride, theknowledge they have a place where they are alwayssuccessful carries them forward to the next week.In the teen years, the need to have the equine bond
intensifies. In a tumultuous time of their life, teens lookto their horse for strength, unquestioning acceptanceand support, quietude and stability. The horse andtheir barn friends become a “constant” in their life,a place where they can be guaranteed success throughdedication, learn responsibility, and be thoroughlygratified by the experience. The huge amount of respect, adoration, admiration,
responsibility and commitment required to createand maintain this attachment is intense, and is animportant life skill. The only thing greater is what thehorse gives back to the rider: self-confidence, security, unconditional love, joy of life, inner peace and a senseof self-worth. To know thatno matter what happens, there is someone who lovesthem, needs them and willalways be there for them,no matter what the outsidecircumstances of life bring. The horses only expectationis to be treated fairly, beloved in return, and anoccasional carrot! As an adult, riding takes
on an entirely differentmeaning: it’s a time wherethe rider can just relax,
focus on their own goals, and put all the problems offamily, work and stress away. The barn is a sanctuaryfor the entire family, an emotional safety zone, anda place where dreams really can come true. A placewhere all those who share this passion for horses cancongregate with the same mutual need: To be withtheir horse, because they’ve been dreaming of him allday!PonyPalsoffers riding lessons for all agesandabilities,
and for entire families to come and ride together. Weare currently offering a special promotion to newriders to our stables.
