The Big Wild Ride (BWR) is not a race. Rather, randon- neuring is noncompetitive, long-distance, self- supported endurance cycling, where riders rely exclu- sively on the services and amenities found in the com- munities they pass through for food, lodging, and re- pairs, rather than travel with tent, sleeping bag, and stove. Thus, cyclists on The Big Wild Ride, and their traveling companions, will roll into your town tired, hungry, and thirsty, representing potential customers who can bring revenue into your community. There’s been tremendous growth in randonnée-style cycling in recent years. The Alaska Randonneurs have been offering rides going through Homer, Kenai, Palmer, Seward, Glennallen, Chitna, Gakona, and Tok since 1998. The Big Wild Ride is our most ambitious ride yet, and our opportunity to share the splendor of Alaska, and the friendliness of our local communities with other randonneurs from around the world. Our goal for The Big Wild Ride is to offer a positive, challenging, and memorable experience for our riders, and an equally beneficial experience for the communities we travel through. Chamber News 2nd Annual Sullivan Roadhouse Garden Tea By Kathy Trim

It isn't often one gets to live out a dream so fully...unless you live in Delta Junction and have friends who love to tea as much as you do!

The 2nd annual Sullivan Roadhouse Garden Tea was simply won-derful thanks to so many who made it possible. The Gardeners ap-preciate Delta community businesses and friends who helped make the tea a success:

Delta Chamber of Commerce- use of the roadhouse to create the perfect atmosphere for afternoon tea. John and Linda Sloan/Buffalo Center Drive In-use of the kitchen conveniences. Acacia Floral for selling our tickets and supplying rose petals and lovely flowers for decorating and bucket drop prizes. Higher Knead Mas-sage Therapy & Facials-Mango Sorbet Tea. Willow Wood Gift Shop for the pretty floral photo albums and address books for bucket drop prizes. Audrey Murphy for donating a beautiful hand crocheted doily for bucket drop prizes.

Delta News Web for advertising the tea and our wonderful SRH page. The Delta Wind for advertising and that awesome feature page last week with all of the photos too!

Several Gardeners and Friends donated and made tea sandwiches and sweet endings: Smoked Salmon Spread by Lonnie Miller, De-lectable Cucumber Creation by Janice Weller, Incredible Fruit Tarts, Blueberry Pastry and Raspberry Cheesecakes by Lou Ann Fett, Simply the Best Shortbread and Homemade Jams by Carol Dufendach, Scones with Devonshire Cream, BLT and Summer Chicken Salad Sandwiches and Chocolate Truffles by Kathy Trim. Carol and Kathy also baked Gluten Free goodies for our Gluten Free Friends. Best Helper and Super Dish Washing Queen Christy Roden. Lou Ann also shared her creative talents in building and donating the beautiful door prizes; The garden bench and window planter box were the best

door prizes ever! Christy and Lou Ann worked together behind the scenes at the Drive-In plating all of the tea food for a most delightful presentation.

Delta area students who came from the schools to help serve and entertain; Delta High School students and grads; Katy Dighton, Kari Olsen and Erica Kelly- Fort Greely School National Junior Honor Society members; Valerie Krepel, Shana Wilburn and Krista Enderle and 2 young ladies from the White-stone Community; Katrina and Vivian Miller. An extra special thank you to Valerie Krepel for her help in coordinating volunteers and her unbelievable non-stop entertainment. She played both the piano and her lovely flute delivering classical tunes as background music the entire time. WOW!

Lastly, a big thank you to all of the ladies who purchased tickets and attended! You are responsible for helping us raise $1050! Part of which will be used to purchase a chandelier for the Dining Room. Future dreams include putting a boardwalk all around the roadhouse and extending the deck which will help tremendously with weed control.

Thanks again Delta Junction-you love to tea and it shows!

Scott and Maribeth Miller came to Alaska on their honeymoon from northern Minnesota in July of 1981 and stayed. They have three grown children; Ike, Pete and Kari. Scott has an adopted daughter, Leah. Scott and Maribeth recently celebrated their 30th wedding anni-versary this year. Scott proudly states “we came here on our honeymoon 30 years ago and we are still on it.”

Misty Mountain Elk Hunts offers big game adventure hunting Rocky Mountain Elk on their private 500 acre wilderness ranch. This is a privately owned Alaska herd and facility so there is no closed season or hunting license/permits required. Whether you are looking for a world class trophy hunt or just a meat hunt, Scott can help you choose what is right for you and your budget. He offers both guided and unguided hunts as well as discounted group hunts. Hunts and accommodations are also available for disabled or handicapped.

In addition to their Misty Mountain Elk Hunting business, Scott and Maribeth run a very suc-cessful farming operation. They raise all natural, grain-finished Angus Beef that is available in various meat outlet areas around the state and can also be ordered directly. Hay and straw is also for sale. Scott says “after 30 years he finds Alaska farming to be very chal-lenging but very rewarding and there is no other place they would rather be.” Maribeth is also co-owner of The Calico Cow Quilt Shop located in the Columbo Building.

“We are a family owned and operated business spanning two generations and 30 years in our present Alaska loca-tion”.
