YEAR 7 SCIENCE We
are studying Forces and
Energy in Year 7 at the
moment. The task was to
design and build a marble
run which took a marble
less than 20 seconds to run
through.
The students had to use
materials from home and
parental input was encour-
aged. These two students
had help from their dads. It
was interesting to see their
choice of materials and the
variation in designs.

DELROY CAMPUS NEWSLETTER Wednesday 31st August 2016 8
Wellbeing for our Students Marathon Health recently conducted free Hearing tests at Delroy Campus. Year 7 students
were targeted, however several students from other years took advantage of this opportunity.
There will be another opportunity for these tests when Marathon Health return in term 4, so
watch out for the confirmation dates in this newsletter or on our website and ask your child
to listen for daily notices so they can collect a permission note if you wish them to partici-
pate.
The Dubbo and District Deaf Club have also provided a “Hearing Loss Parent Checklist”
which can be obtained from Mrs Budden if you feel that your child may be experiencing
some hearing issues.
The Spine Society of Australia has provided the school with information regarding the National Self
Detection Program for Scoliosis (Spinal curvature). Past ‘in school screening’ no longer exists so they
recommend girls in Years 7 and 9 participate by downloading a brochure found at:
www.scoliosis-australia.org and follow the information to complete a self - assessment.
It is interesting to note that 25 per thousand are at risk of developing a significant curve and three girls
per thousand require active treatment.
The Learning and Support teachers have been working with the Senior Campus staff to
organise Transition activities for our Year 10 students as they move to Senior studies in
2017.
We have also begun working with our Primary feeder schools to provide Transition opportu-
nities for their Year 6 students as they move to Year 7 in 2017.

WESTERN CHS GYMNASTICS
On 2nd, 3rd and 4th August 2016, Glendale (Hunter region) hosted the CHS Gymnastics. The level of gymnastics was
exceptional, with gymnasts ranging from Level 3 through to Level 10.
It was the first year Western has entered a team, and the gymnasts represented the region with pride. The gymnasts all
performed at a high standard, many coming away with personal best apparatus scores. This is exceptional, as many of the
judges judge at International Competitions. The gymnasts were also competing against other gymnasts who train up to
40 hours a week.
The gymnasts were divided into divisions according to their level.
Division A – level 9 and 10
Division B – level 7 and 8
Division C – level 6
Division D – level 4 and 5
Division E – level 3
Overall results are as follows
Division D
Elwyn Green – 41st
Division C
Dakota Lacrosse – 30th
Division B
A big thankyou also needs to go out to coaches Vicki Stovell (Dubbo RSL Youth Club Gymnastics), Karen Dyball (Dubbo
PCYC) and Maddi Waters (Central West Gymnastics) for giving up their own to help coach the girls on the floor across the
3 days.
It was a great experience for myself as a Western Manager, but also for all gymnasts to showcase their talents and to
experience the high level of competition that was displayed. We look forward to 2017, where Western can take a team of
exceptional gymnasts once again to the State CHS Carnival.

DELROY CAMPUS NEWSLETTER Wednesday 31st August 2016 12
Ross Kelly Cup On Tuesday of week 5, 18 Clontarf boys and 3 staff headed
off to Sydney to take part in the annual Ross Kelly Cup.
This is the biggest football carnival in the Clontarf Calendar
and Delroy had a reputation to uphold after making it to the
grand final in 2015.
We headed to the Royal Far West at Manly and the older boys went on the Ferry with Michael to have dinner at the Royal
Automobile Club and meet Clontarf partners as well as some former and current NRL stars. The younger boys stayed in
Manly with Drew and Mark and went out for dinner there.
The Royal Automobile Club was very fancy and dinner was lovely. We met lots of partners and Joel Thompson who plays
for the St George Dragons. Joel spoke to the boys about his background and some of the struggles he has been through to
get to where he is. The younger boys had “the best burgers in the world” and were tucked up in bed by the time we got
home!
We were up at dawn on Wednesday so that we got to Riverview on time to start warming up at 7:30am. The boys were very
disciplined and organised and we had no trouble getting underway and being on time. We were a bit rough in our first game
and got beaten by one try by Canobolas. We started to get it together though and won all our other pool games to end up on
a tie with Canobolas on the ladder. We played them again in a Golden Point Elimination game and beat them with a beauti-
ful short ball from Randel Dowling to Paul Eastwood!
We were then beaten by Endeavour in the Semi
Final. The boys played their hearts out and the staff
were incredibly proud of both their performance and
their behaviour. Aiden Lake and Randel Dowling
both made it into the Ross Kelly Cup All Stars
Team and Paul Eastwood won the Clontarf Spirit
Medal.
After a number of pretty hard-fought games, the
boys were pretty worn out. We went out to dinner
that night and had an early night. On Thursday
morning the boys got up and we went to the beach
for a recovery session and then after a bit of shop-
ping we headed home to Dubbo. We had maintained
our reputation for good footballers and built a more
important one as a well disciplined and well be-
haved Academy.
Mr Michael Lee

DELROY CAMPUS NEWSLETTER Wednesday 31st August 2016 13
SRC Report Newsletter Our entire world knows that if we want significant change, then we need to have a strong voice to influence growth and
development. Student voice within the school community is imperative, between staff, students and the public. The strength
of student voice within Delroy Campus would impact prominently on the culture of our school. The Delroy Campus
Representative Council strives to enhance the involvement of students in school events, and raise the awareness of the
importance of their voice in our school. As a team, we aim to achieve this by running lessons implemented into PBL, where
the students will be asked to discuss relative issues within the school, which will be forwarded to the Representative
Council. We will then resolve these issues by responding to their feedback accordingly and making changes throughout the
school. This will effectively promote student wellbeing and the voice of students in our school which will efficiently
encourage growth and development. These lessons will begin in term 4 of this year.
Selected students from our SRC went to a Leadership camp “You’re the Voice” hosted in Murrumbateman, near Canberra,
to better our skills as a council and to become more productive. After this camp, we then came up with a ‘BIG IDEA’. The
two components of this big idea are:
To raise the awareness and importance of student voice
To improve the position of the SRC within the school community
By achieving this, we will become stronger as a council and be a more suitable and productive team to represent Delroy
Campus.
We have recently created a Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat page for the SRC to post any upcoming events, and also as
another method for you to contact us. These pages are run by the student and we encourage you to follow or add these
accounts.
As a part of our ‘BIG IDEA’ we have also considered inviting staff and students into our weekly meetings to have their say
in our decision making and see what we get up to as a Student Representative Council. This will help the growth of student
voice.
Events the SRC have been organising include
the disco themed “Go With The Glow” in term Four
Staff vs. Student Basketball in the Hall
