Welcome

A very warm welcome to the 2017 ‘Queen’s Nurse Day’.

This is your day – a day for Queen’s Nurses to participate in discussions of national importance, to hear the latest news from the QNI and to network with like-minded colleagues from England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

We plan to provide you with updates on the most current issues in community nursing and to inspire you with examples of excellence and innovation in practice.

I am grateful to our speakers for giving their time to present to you today and in particular George Plumptre, Chief Executive of the National Garden Scheme. The QNI are most fortunate to receive an annual grant from the NGS which enables us to support the Queen’s

Nurse programme. We could not provide you all with this learning opportunity today without their support. This year, we are delighted to receive additional support from them towards our Queen’s Nurse Leadership Development programme. It is particularly special as this is our anniversary year and we are celebrating 130 years of the QNI! Coincidentally, the National Garden Scheme are also celebrating an important milestone: their 90th anniversary. Please spread the word about Gardens Open For Charity so that all the community nursing beneficiaries of the NGS continue to receive support in this way in future years! After lunch we will hear from Dr Naomi Chapman and Jill Best on clinical evaluation and how it is everyone’s responsibility. We will also hear from Professor Dame Elizabeth Anionwu about her inspiring journey through the fields of nursing, education and activism.

Suzanne Rich, the QNI’s Keep in Touch Project Officer will update you on the project which aims to strengthen the Queen’s Nurse community past and present. You will also hear from our Queen’s Nurse volunteers on how the experience has been for them.

We will also, throughout the day, have the opportunity to see Queen’s Nurses’ poster presentations on how they have improved patient care. My thanks to all Queen’s Nurses; you give so much time and expertise to support the QNI and all that we represent: professionalism, leadership, innovation and learning – and above all, a clear focus on the work that needs to be done to enhance the care of people in their homes and communities.

If you would like to join us in celebrating our anniversary this year, please keep an eye on the website and social media for updates on events and launches near you.

I hope that you will return to your workplace tomorrow energized and inspired - having made new connections, gained new knowledge and much inspiration from the day.
