Equipment usedfor deep sea expeditions
Exhibit design is fundamental for many industries, whether they
are mayor corporations or small businesses. Mayor corporations
spend thousands of dollars on the assistance of designing firms who
specialize in exhibit design. Other places that used the help of
designers for exhibits are museums, galleries, mayor chain
retailers and others. The objective of this project was to design
the exhibit facilities, within an area of 100’ by 200’ museum
floor. Deep sea being the topic, all rooms needed to be designed to
accommodate the theme, and interest the public.
-
Deep SeaIdeation
Inspiration
Most images used as inspiration for the creation of the floor
design of the entire exhibit, where actual deep sea exhibits have
been available to the public on numerous occasions.
The idea behind some of these concepts, was to create an
atmosphere of intrigue to the public. I thought of this by having
the exhibit on two floors. The top floor arranged in small rooms of
information that would prepare the public for the end of the
exhibit… on the bottom floor “Deep Floor”.
-
Deep SeaRenderings
Inspiration
Logo design for exhibit advertisement
Quick renderings where used to come up with a color scheme, that
would complement the exhibit and would attract the public.
Throughout time, color has always been a powerful tool to stimulate
the mind. Usually dark colors create curiosity, and anxiety.

Mock-upDeep SeaFloor Layout
Upper view of entire 1st and 2nd floors
Front view of entire 1st and 2nd floors
A floor plan was used to have a proper layout of every room and
the entire exhibit. The floor plan was also used to see where a
possible kiosk would be needed.
The final outcome of this project was a ¼ scale mock-up that
illustrates the entire exhibit. The materials used for the creation
of this mock-up where, foam board, fiber glass foam, several 3d
prototype models, plastics and wood.

Solage ChairFurniture Design
Centuries ago, before industrial and technical advances of
society, Early humans had a connection with earth, and a profound
understanding for the benefits of their surroundings. Sun, Wind,
Rain, and other natural elements were, and are, part of living.
Lets make these fortunes of our planet part of the big scope of
furniture.
Objective:
-
Solage ChairIdeation
Form Studies
Most furniture serves a purpose… like sitting, reclining, sofa
beds etc. Inspired by actual working models, and new modern
concepts of chairs and recliners, I’m trying to create a chair/
recliner, that also has the capabilities and functionalty of being
a storage unit. it is also a source of independent energy by the
usage of photovoltaic cells.
-
Solage ChairIdeation
Form studies
I selected three final concepts for future development as part
of my thesis. The first concept is the one I find the most
interesting becauseof the shape of each part. I had ambitioned a
chair that not only does what it was designed for, but it also has
functionality and green environment applications.

Flexible solar cells range in size, current, voltage, and
encapsulating material. They are created by depositing amorphous
silicone on a plastic substrate and then encapsulated with either
Polyester or tefzel. They are paper thin and they can wrap around
any curved surface.
The WeatherPro solar series was built for permanent fixture in
the outdoors, as the Tefzel coating has a rated lifespan of 20
years. These cells can be arrangedin a parallel connection oftwo or
three similar modules,to increase the output voltage.
Design made out of rotational molded polyethylene
Polyethylene is the most popular plastic in the world. This is
the polymer that makes grocery bags, shampoo bottles, children's
toys, and even bullet proof vests.Sometimes it's a little more
complicated. Some of the carbons, instead of having hydrogens
attached to them, will have long chains of polyethylene attached to
them. This is called branched, or low-density polyethylene, or
LDPE. When there is no branching, it is called linear polyethylene,
or HDPE. Linear polyethylene is much stronger than branched
polyethylene, but branched polyethylene is cheaper and easier to
make.

The initial thought was to make the chair out of wood. thinking
about size and weight, manufacturing in wood does not seem
possible. The alternative material is Polyethylene, which would
help with the problem of weight, and also would help in the sense
of durability.

Bag ClipProduct Design
Objective
Smal items loss prevention Bag clip, product will vary in size,
small, medium and large bags.
Sensormatic Retail Solutions
Sensormatic has been in the loss prevention, and operational
improvement technologies with more than 1,500 patents. Most of
Sensormatic solutions portfolioit is sold through ADT and
authorized business partners around the world.
80 percent of the worlds 200 retailers that use EAS (Electronic
Article Survei-llance) rely on sensormatic. Some of their EAS
solutions include source-tagging,data analystics and in-store,
item-level intelligence applications.
Sensormatic its part of the Tyco family developing and promoting
a diverse work environment, that reflects the global community.
Sensormatic Line of Products
Per the designing engineer, the above product needed a more
pleasant and ergonomically look to it. Considering the space needed
for the internal components, as well as the locking mechanism; the
product must be enjoyable and easy to use, conserving Sensormatic
loss prevention alarm techniques.
-
Bag ClipIdeation
First concepts
The prototype i was given, lacked of any ergonomic studies. The
inner plastic membrane was the starting locking mechanism. The
above concepts were mainly based on giving a more ergonomically
friendly look to the design. Taking into consideration how it will
be used and handled by their users; Also thinking about its
effectiveness as a loss prevention sensormatic product.
In the second face of ideation for this product, we took into
consideration, the fact that there will be different size bags, in
order to accommodate bigger products. I base my concepts on making
the brains of the mechanism a standard size, and having wings that
can be changed in size to fullfill the different sizes needed.

Combo DetacherProduct Design
ObjectiveDepartment stores and other industries that used both
products, often find themselves with several detachers. Confusion
is often the case for cashiers and other users of these products.
The combination of both products is the intent, focusing on
usability in order to minimize problems at check point
locations.
The ultra tag was developed to address a wide variety ofsecurity
applications. It was designed through extensive customer
input;based on high security, ease of application, and ease of
removal.

Form Studies
Design Specs:There where no design constrains when it came to
concept generation for this product, the only component which
couldn’t be changed, was the sensormatic magnet unit. The
competitor’s product could be altered in any way; the important
thing here was to have both units completely usable and functional
within their specifications.
-
Combo DetacherIdeation
Form studies
The study of forms was useful when it came to concept
generation. Even though products are not all the same, they still
need to follow ergonomic rules to function and feel properly. The
ring idea was most favored after the first concept generation, some
modifications where needed as the engineer got a better look at
what the ending product would be.
-
Ideation Combo DetacherCompetitive Product
The alpha product is a very simple product, with a complete
different set of magnets, which works to its particular tags. It
was necessary to take the product apart and study what things where
needed for the new design, as well as the space required for these
components. Per the engineer’s request, the orientation of the
magnets needed to change to face upward, especially when it came to
its functionality.
Ring picked by engineer to be design.

Environmental Studies Combo DetacherCad Model
CAD model was designed in PRO/E, two parts housing for the
internal components of the original alpha handkey s3.
An image of the Sensormatic detacher, plus a rendering of the
new alpha ring, was digitally adjusted to have a realistic
interpretation of the two products together.
