DSC wasfounded in 2006 with thecommitment to preserve thehistoric downtown of Dedham andto stimulate business andeconomic development bypromoting its unique history,

The Dedham SquareImprovement Project is gearedtowards beautifying andimproving safety in DowntownDedham, and as a result, hasalready drawn interest from boththe local and neighboringcommunities. “The positive impact theseimprovements have already had onthe town has been remarkable,”said DSC Executive Director AmyHaelsen. “We have heard fromlocal real estate agents that there’sbeen increased interest in theDedham housing market and thattheir clients specifically mentionedhow much they like DedhamSquare with its art house movietheatre, coffee shops, uniqueboutiques, restaurants, history, andart and cultural amenities.”She added, “The project hashelped our downtown attract newbusinesses as well, in fact, fivenew businesses, including afabulous new bakery, the FredAstaire Dance Studio, a music andperforming arts program, a pilatesstudio and a photography studiohave all opened over the last year. The improvements to the squarehave also helped to bolstercommunity pride.”In just a year of work, Dedhamsquare has added new street lamps,brick-lined sidewalks and granitecurbing, new walk signals, additional public parking (49 newspaces), new bike racks and dozensof new trees and plants. “The transformation of DedhamSquare over the last year has beenremarkable,” Haelsen said. “Thefeedback we continue to receivefrom residents and visitors is sopositive.
