Holiday Traditions . By: Briana Giraldo
In many places around the world there are so many
Holiday traditions like Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, and
Christmas.
Kwanzaa
Kwanzaa is a celebration that honors the African American culture. It starts on December 26 and ends on January 1. Here are some of the Kwanzaa traditions: People that celebrate Kwanzaa place green tablecloth on a table and place a Kinara on the tablecloth. A kinara is a where they place the 7 candles. The Mishumaa Saba are the candles that are placed on the Kinara. On top, they have a Mkeka which is a woven mat that represents the foundation of Kwanzaa. After, they decorate flags. Each day from December 26 to January 1, they light a candle. On the 7 days they present music and have readings. Finally, on the 6th day they have a feast celebrating New Year’s Eve.
Hanukkah
Hanukkah is a Jewish celebration, which is celebrated in 8 days. In this celebration, the Jews light a menorah, which holds 9 candles. The middle candle is used to light each of the 8 candles on the 8 days. Children play with dradles, a 4-sided cube with a tip on the bottom that kids can spin. Jewish adults usually give kids small amounts of money and they exchange gifts on one or all the 8 nights.
Christmas
Christmas is a festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ, which is celebrated on December 25. In this festival, many people share various kinds of food which can include turkey, ham, or stew. They decorate the Christmas tree with homemade decorations or bought ones. Families put their presents under the Christmas tree and Santa also comes and delivers the presents at midnight. The next morning, or right after Santa delivers the presents, you open them in front of your family and everyone gets to see your gift.

A Christmas Poem
By: Valentina Quintero
Our hearts glow
Full of joy.
Our faces smile,
The time has arrived.
Tis the season to share,
Season to love,
Season to give,
And to forgive.
As the colors turn
Red, gold, and green
All faces rejoice as
It comes near.
When you come outside,
He might be near,
For holidays have a friend.

MANGO CHANGO : Looking for the
Meaning of Christmas! By: Kevin Aldaya
It was Christmas when Mango Chango and Owl went to the mall. They went to the mall because their best friend Banana had told them they were giving 50 percent off Christmas decorations and gifts there. So, as Mango Chango and Owl walked around they saw many people scattered around the place desperately looking for Christmas decorations and gifts. “Get your ornaments here,” one lady said to a family. Suddenly, Owl exclaimed to Mango, “Is this what Christmas is really all about”. “I don t know, but let’s go find out on the magical website of Santa facts.com,” replied Mango.
When they got home and searched for the website and asked it what Christmas is really all about all that popped up was: To Find out Go to the North Pole. “That will be a very exciting adventure,” they both thought. So they took off using an old sleigh Santa had given them as a gift the Christmas before. Just as they zoomed by towards the North Pole, they saw a little cottage just ahead. As Mango peaked through the window he finally saw the true meaning of Christmas. A family of a father, a mother, a boy and a girl were all compressed together in a big tight hug even though they had no presents or many things in the house.
Suddenly, Mango recognized that Christmas is not about gifts or presents, but about love and compassion. Just then a bag full of presents appeared next to Mango. A voice in his head was saying give them to the family. Mango knew just what to do. He got up and grabbed the bag. He opened the door shouting “Merry Christmas”. As he handed them each a present the kids shouted, “We love you Mango Chango!” Mango replied, “I love you guys too!”
Dragon’s Tale Literature Page
The Jones household consisted of the following people: Annie (mom), the daughters Faith and Grace (twins), the oldest brother Christian, and Hope (their pet husky). It was Christmas Eve and everyone was happy that Christmas was almost here. Annie told the kids it was time for bed because Santa’s coming. Their
dad, Diego, had spoken to all of them earlier on the phone and told them he would not be able to make it home for Christmas.
After everyone went to sleep, Christian suddenly woke up. He wondered what woke him. Then, he went to the window and saw snow. “Why would it
snow in the middle of Miami?” thought Christian. In
shock he ran into the girls’ room. Hope was sleeping
on Grace’s bed. He woke them and told them to look out the window - it was still snowing. They all went outside to see and found a note that read, “Oh, you
kids so foolish to come out! Now you’re locked outside
until you solve my quest. Find where a reindeer eats and an elf sleeps. Listen carefully for who is coming to you tonight. The answer is a clue. Love your dear father.” “Who shall come in tonight?” Faith spoke out
loud. Christian and Grace answered, “Santa? Santa is
coming!” Hope ran off and all the kids thought of
Santa’s workshop. They followed Hope knowing she was on the
right track. After about 5 minutes, they came to a 3-story building full of toys, elves, and machinery. When they went inside an elf asked them if they were the Jones family. He gave them a key. When they arrived again to their front porch, they used the key to open the door. Suddenly, their mother, Annie, awakened them. Their father was home with a broken leg, but happy to see them. They were so confused since their dream seemed so real, but they were happy to be with their dad.

Greg’s problems start when his Mom petitions the Town Hall to stop using electronics for 48 hours. To make matters worse, Greg’s life becomes more difficult when Grandpa moves in with the family.
