EQUITY CENTER News & Notes December 2009 Vol. 28, No. 7 Advocating School Finance Equity and Adequacy in Texas THE MEMBERSHIP ISSUE Changes are Happening at the EC Membership is Growing... And So are Our Services The Equity Center set a new membership record with 658 school districts so far, joining for the 2009-2010 school year — an all-time high for us. And with that increase in support, we’re expanding and improving our services to member districts. On September 8th, we started the EC Xpress, a publication emailed to member districts every Tuesday as part of our expanded member services. We’ve just finished our 14 th issue and have been getting some really good feedback. To accommodate for busy schedules and calendars, we’ve made it an informal, concise one-pager to be read easily and quickly. It has proven to be beneficial and insightful concerning the operation of our state funding system. On November 13th, we broadcast our first weekly podcast at Equity Center Radio hosted by Executive Director, Dr. Wayne Pierce and Deputy Executive Director, Dr. Ray Freeman, on the new services we are now providing and others we are in the process of developing… letting those unfamiliar with the Equity Center know who we are and what we do. Future interviews include state leaders, school district officials and other “movers and shakers” in the realm of public school finance. All previously aired broadcasts are posted online at equitycenterradio.org. New podcasts are available every Friday morning at 10:45 a.m. (holidays excluded). We increased our monthly issues of News & Notes to 10 per year, concentrating on key school finance issues, with more charts and graphs to help get our message across to more people. We have some great things on tap. For example: A new, web-based data input system that will allow every district to update their district profiles and input real-time data to make our modeling and research efforts more dynamic and beneficial, and believe it or not… The Equity Center is now on Facebook! The EC Facebook page serves as a useful platform to communicate with members, as well as individuals across the state and nation who are interested in school finance. Our podcasts and updates regarding EC activities will also be available there. The page will provide a forum for members and non-members to exchange ideas about equity and school finance issues. If you are a member of Facebook, please search for the Equity Center and become our newest “fan.” Stay tuned for more improvements and enhancements of services to our members—and as we prepare for the next legislative session in 2011!

THE MEMBERSHIP ISSUE

Changes are Happening at the ECMembership is Growing... And So are Our Services

The Equity Center set a new membership record with 658 school districts so far, joining for the2009-2010 school year — an all-time high for us. And with that increase in support, we’re expandingand improving our services to member districts.

On September 8th, we started the EC Xpress, a publication emailed to member districts everyTuesday as part of our expanded member services. We’ve just finished our 14th issue and have beengetting some really good feedback. To accommodate for busy schedules and calendars, we’ve madeit an informal, concise one-pager to be read easily and quickly. It has proven to be beneficial andinsightful concerning the operation of our state funding system.

On November 13th, we broadcast our first weekly podcast at Equity Center Radio hosted byExecutive Director, Dr. Wayne Pierce and Deputy Executive Director, Dr. Ray Freeman, on the newservices we are now providing and others we are in the process of developing… letting thoseunfamiliar with the Equity Center know who we are and what we do. All previously aired broadcasts are posted online at equitycenterradio.org. New podcastsare available every Friday morning at 10:45 a.m. (holidays excluded).

We increased our monthly issues of News & Notes to 10 per year, concentrating on key school financeissues, with more charts and graphs to help get our message across to more people.

We have some great things on tap. For example:• A new, web-based data input system that will allow every district to update their district

profiles and input real-time data to make our modeling and research efforts more dynamic andbeneficial, and believe it or not…

• The Equity Center is now on Facebook!
