Hi everyone

!

It is my pleasure to present to you the 3rd volume of CSUN CKI: December—January issue! In this volume, you will find that our theme, which is Kung Fu Panda, has been incorporated.

It was a fun experience putting this newsletter together and although I

would love to keep creating newsletters, I am sad to make it known that this will be the last CKI newsletter that will be put together by me.

I would say that the experience of creating newsletters

was unforgettable and I am extremely thankful that I was given the opportunity of being CSUN CKI’s first ever Publications Editor. It was a great challenge each month

My term is coming to a close this coming March and I would like to thank all of you who have taken the time to read and look at my newsletters.

I am very happy that I was able to give back to

CSUN CKI: the club that has given me many unforgettable experiences and

wodnderful friends.

Winter break can’t keep CSUN CKI from being productive! As usual, CSUN CKI attends a Divisional Council Meeting. This is

a great way to keep in touch with the other CKI clubs that are part of the Metro Division.

Not only are we given the chance to touch base with one another’s progress, we are also able to spend quality time with our friends from other colleges.

On December 1st, Pierce hosted a DCM. I had only joined CSUN’s CKI a few weeks before so this was my first DCM in CKI…

Attending my very first DCM with CKI was a completely different experience.

At the end of the DCM, everyone stayed in the park and chatted the night away.

People who I had never met, people who had never met me, had all become friends and I to

them.

I knew that attending the DCM would be a great idea. It was a great experience for

the beginning of my CKI life.

A rather lovable stuffed monkey that symbolizes recognition of a club’s hard work. CSUN CKI

was able to keep Marty for a whole month

of adventures.

MARTY!

At the Divisional Council Meeting in December, CSUN CKI had the utmost pleasure

of being presented a member-of-the-month prize:

In only a month’s time, Marty already became a part of the family!

Three days and two nights in a cabin in the woods was plenty of

time to create unforgettable memories.

In order to start the new

academic semester right, CSUN CKI held a board retreat in Fraizer Park.

The purpose of the retreat was to build

familial bonds between each board member so that everyone

will become closer and therefore become more in sync

with one another comes Spring semester.

From shopping together early in the morning to cooking dinner

at night, the retreat was a team-building experience that led to

friendships that may perhaps last for a lifetime.

Not only were there activities that

promoted teamwork, every board member had the

chance of talking about themselves. This gave the others a chance to get to know one another

in a more personal level.

The board retreat definitely proved to be effective for it was a

weekend filled with

“One whole weekend in a cabin with your friends…

what better thing can you ask for?

Those days definitely

went by fast but I do not regret it one bit.

I had a really good time spending the weekend with my fellow board members and definitely would do it again.

I am really looking forward to what the future brings us and I know that we will keep improving.

— Eric Ramirez CSUN CKI Co-Historian “This was a great experience and

I enjoyed every part of it. I enjoyed waking up and seeing how we all look in the mornings, cooking and baking

together and just having fun and enjoying each other’s company.

We have grown to be a family.

Each day we learn more about one anotherand we get closer. We have learned to trust

and communicate to each other,

”Erika Cervantes — CSUN CKI Service Chair

and most importantly that we part

of a group that will be there when we

need them.

Rose Parade floats before their departure on New Year’s Day.

Go West is a

2 day 3 night event

Go West also included fun activities such as broom ball and

a scavenger hunt!

The best moments that I won’t forget was playing broom ball and participating in the scavenger hunt.

I have never played broom ball before so I didn’t know what to expect. When we got to the

ice skating rink, I assumed that we would be renting out ice skates.

To my surprise, we didn’t need ice skates, just the shoes

we had on.

Overall I would say go west was a fun and unforgettable experience. I would definitely attend

next year and recommend for others to go.

I was glad to be reunited with my CKI family during winter break because I

rarely saw them. When I got to the DCM they started with a valentine card making

service, which I was really into. I am quite the

perfectionist so I took the whole DCM to just finish one card.

— Tiffy Kao CSUN CKI Membership Development & Education

The January Divisional Council Meeting in Long Beach consisted of

making Valentine’s Day cards for children in the hospital, a flag football social,

and a penny war between the CKI clubs of the

Metro Division in which the proceeds went to the District Large Scale Service

Project South (DLSSP South).

Mariel Calinog — CSUN CKI Vice President of Administration

The January Divisional Council

Meeting was held at Cal State Long Beach! It was nice

to see all my friends. It was an awesome way

to start off the new year of 2013.

Service is a huge part of CSUN CKI’s activities.

Service to Children however, is a huge part

of CSUN CKI’s service.

It is always a pleasant experience for members to come

together and work with one another in order to do

something nice for the children.

I am not the most patient when it comes to being crafty. But

knowing that it’s for the children I decided to put in the

effort. It was fun learning new skills and getting closer to the

other members.

Every now and then, CSUN CKI takes the time to visit

Noble Avenue Elementary school in order to read to the

children.

This is a form of service that is not only

enjoyable, but heart-warming

as well.

Reading to the children is a satisfying form of service

that CSUN CKI will continue to offer many

more times in the future.

Who said you're too old for pillow fight? Having the chance to swing around a pillow

at your friends and people around you,

my experience at UCLA Pillow Fight was amazing

and I want to go next year.

Many CSUN CKI members, along with many other participants

from other colleges, in on the fun at the Pillow Fight that was held in University of California

Los Angeles.

This event was a fundraiser in order to raise money for Alexandria’s

House, which is a transitional residence and neighborhood

center.
