The Comox Archives and Museum celebrates the rich maritime, pioneer and natural history of its coastal community.

From exciting exhibits to local events, it strives to bring the history of Comox to life for all generations to appreciate.

The Comox Archives and Museum Society promotes discovery, learning, and an appreciation of the region’s natural, cultural, and artistic heritage. Through the integration of research, collections, and education, CAMS strives to promote learning and inspire stewardship and sustainable use of Comox’s natural and cultural resources.

CAMS presents quarterly family history talks free of charge to the public. These talks give genealogy enthusiasts an understanding of some of the characters who made Comox what it is today as well as tips on how to conduct their own family research.

Many of these talks were done as PowerPoint presentations or were videotaped, which are available for viewing at the museum.

CAMS is fortunate to have a certifi ed genealogist who will conduct genealogical research. Pam Moughton has had a great deal of success researching her own families as well as countless others. Pam will do quick lookups free of charge or research for individuals at a very reasonable fee that includes a free evaluation of the project. If you are interested in having the CAMS genealogist search for your ancestors, e-mail [email protected].

The Courtenay and District Museum and Paleontology Centre is located downtown in the former post offi ce at 207 Fourth St. on the corner of Fourth and Cliffe Avenue.

For almost 50 years, the museum has been showcasing the natural and cultural heritage of the breathtaking Comox Valley.

You can fi nd a lot at the museum, which is full of science, academic research, interpretation, preservation — and having fun.

You can take a fossil tour and travel 80 million years back in time or browse the galleries to delve into the stories that make our history come alive.

The Courtenay and District Museum offers fascinating programs suitable for all ages and levels of interest. An ongoing lecture series focuses on natural science and the pioneer settlements in the Comox Valley.

The Paleontology Department provides programs about prehistoric life and fi eld tours to excavation sites. Guests are able to walk on and explore an exposed 80-million-year-old sea fl oor.

The museum is pleased to offer public and school tours, archival services and other special programs year-round.

The Cumberland Museum and Archives opened its doors in 1981 and is home to the extensive archives and artifacts of the community of Cumberland.

The museum is open year round and offers over 40 exhibits, a company store, research services, after-school programs, heritage events, guided tours, fi lms and a replica coal mine.

The museum is located in the heart of the historic village, steps from #6 Memorial Mine Park and downtown shopping and dining. It is wheelchair-accessible, offers free wireless Internet access and provides visitor services for travellers.

The museum tells the story of the people of Cumberland — the rich, the poor, the powerful, the rebellious, the righteous and the radical. The “People’s Museum” of Cumberland invites you to add your questions, knowledge, stories and interests to the rich fabric of the organization. It is dedicated to fi nding new ways to connect and engage with its changing community to ensure that the Cumberland Museum is relevant now and in the future. CMA is committed to sharing the stores, images and artifacts of the past and using them as a tool to understand our present and create a sustainable community for future generations.
