AMB WEST PHILANTHROPIES ADDS PETER BROWN FROM GALLATIN VALLEY
LAND TRUST AS SR. PROGRAM OFFICERBrown to lead AMB West
Conservation Fund Starting January 2021 MONTANA – November 19, 2020
– AMB West Philanthropies, which comprises the nonprofit interests
of The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation in the Western United
States, announced Peter Brown, currently Stewardship Director at
the Gallatin Valley Land Trust (GVLT), as Sr. Program Officer for
AMB West Philanthropies. Brown will specifically lead the AMB West
Conservation Fund in developing policies and priorities,
recommending a portfolio of grants with partner organizations, and
building community relationships with collaborators that share a
vision of conserving and enhancing the unique attributes of the
Paradise Valley. “Over the years as both a resident and grant
recipient, I have seen firsthand the impact that AMB West
Philanthropies and the Blank Family Foundation have had on
preserving the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem,” stated Brown. “To
become a part of a business and a family that cares deeply about
protecting the future of Montana’s working lands, Yellowstone
river, wildlife and communities, means becoming part of everything
I stand for and am passionate about.” AMB West Philanthropies
believes that Montana’s unique ability to connect people to each
other and to nature has the power to build stronger, healthier,
happier communities, and that we have a role in preserving
Montana’s beauty for future generations. Through grant making,
convening, advocacy and in-kind services, AMB West Philanthropies
has committed more than $7 million to help promote positive change
in peoples’ lives and build and enhance the communities in which
they live. “Peter’s expertise and genuine passion for preserving
this unique landscape will be an invaluable addition to the AMB
West Philanthropies team,” said Tawnya Rupe, Sr. Program Director,
AMB West Philanthropies. “The health of the land and health of the
community are interwoven, and Peter will bring a commitment of
fostering diverse community engagement to ensure a thriving
community into the future.” Brown is currently Stewardship Director
at GVLT where he is responsible for stewarding a large portfolio of
conservation easements, which includes 115 projects totaling 49,500
acres of the best wildlife habitat, prime agricultural soils, and
scenic open space in the headwaters reaches of the Missouri and
Yellowstone rivers. Brown enjoys helping landowners locate natural
resource management information and reviews conservation
stewardship projects in partnership with GVLT’s private land
partners. He has been with GVLT since 2011. Brown begins his new
role as Sr. Program Officer for AMB West Philanthropies on January
18, 2021.

The History of Christmas TreesThe evergreen fir tree has
traditionally been used to celebrate winter festivals (pagan and
Christian) for thousands of years. Pagans used branches of it to
decorate their homes during the winter solstice, as it made them
think of the spring to come. The Romans used Fir Trees to decorate
their temples at the festival of Saturnalia. Christians use it as a
sign of everlasting life with God.
Nobody is really sure when Fir trees were first used as
Christmas trees. It probably began about 1000 years ago in Northern
Europe. Many early Christmas Trees seem to have been hung upside
down from the ceiling using chains (hung from chandeliers/lighting
hooks).
Other early Christmas Trees, across many parts of northern
Europe, were cherry or hawthorn plants (or a branch of the plant)
that were put into pots and brought inside so they would hopefully
flower at Christmas time. If you couldn't afford a real plant,
people made pyramids of woods and they were decorated to look like
a tree with paper, apples and candles. Sometimes they were carried
around from house to house, rather than being displayed in a
home.

Know that when you're dining in town this season you will likely
experience a longer than normal wait time with limited options. On
July 14th, four buildings were lost in a devastating fire, two of
which were restaurants. The loss of the fire compounded with
strained supply chains, staff shortages, record breaking
visitation, and the spread of COVID-19 are all contributors to our
stressed dining establishments. Our locals are doing their best to
serve our community and visitors. We encourage you to pack your
patience when enjoying our variety of excellent dining
establishments in Gardiner this season and be gracious to our small
community.
Please keep in mind that the following factors are effecting the
daily schedule of restaurants:• Limited staffing• Supply chain
disruptions/irregularities• Staff testing positive for COVID-19•
