HEALTH EDUCATION “Now choose life, so that you and
your children may live and that you
may love the Lord your God.”
Deuteronomy 30:19-20
Christmas is the time for children. To become a child
in relation to God is the con-dition for entering His king-dom.
Some thoughts to make this a most joyous time of
the year are: Prayer and fasting opens
our hearts to Christmas
love, be kind to each other,

THANK YOU
Dear Kernstown UMC, As we near the holiday season I would like to
extend my thanks to you. I've only been in my
new position for a short amount of time, however in that time I have witnessed how much of an im-pact Blue Ridge Hospice is able to make on this community, our patients, and their families.
Your support has allowed us to provide quali-
ty care to those without the means to pay for it. Even more than that. If our patient's family needs grief counseling, we will provide it free of
charge. Did you know we also provide grief coun-seling to the whole community for free?
Should a patient benefit from extra visits from
a Physician or RN, we are there. If a patient could benefit from music therapy, pet therapy, or chap-
lain services, Blue Ridge Hospice provides it at no cost to the patient or their family. We are able to do this because of YOU.
Without donations we would only be able to provide the basic care that is covered through
Medicare or private insurance. That's not how we want to operate and that's not the care our com-munity deserves.
Your support makes a real difference in this community's health and well-being. On behalf of all of us at Blue Ridge Hospice, thank you.
With gratitude, Richard Kennedy, CEO

THANK YOU to all who contributed to my four mile walk on Octo-ber 19 for the "WRE Walk for Christ".
It was a beautiful morning with 45 walk-ers.

hope, peace, love, and joy that we are reminded Je-sus offers to each of us.
But we “need” to be right, have our own way, give
advice, and a multitude of other things that put us in control of our lives.
We “need” to be in con-trol not only of ourselves, but others too. As a re-
sult, we do not have the degree of hope, peace,
love, and joy that Jesus desires for us.
Our New Year’s Reso-
lutions often are our at-tempt to control our-
selves. We make plans. We tell others about our

plans. Maybe we keep our plans to ourselves, so that
we don’t allow others to know when we let ourselves down.
What are we to do? Let us go to the Lord during Ad-
vent in December. Let us go to the Lord each and every day next year. The Holy
Spirit will show us what to do, what not to do, who we
can help, how we can help them, and empower us to be content when we and others
do not do what we want and need them to do.
Surrender to the Lord is
the way to be freed from our wants and needs.
The Apostle Paul was an example of how to surren-
der to the Lord. Paul told the Corinthians that the Apostles were examples to
them as to how to live. Paul didn’t want them to
lose heart in following Je-sus because it isn’t easy. So Paul told them:

16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being re-newed day by day.
17 For our light and mo-mentary troubles are achiev-ing for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal
(2 Corinthians 4:16-18)
These verses are Good
News for those of us who need biscuits and gravy.
We are told that our bod-
ies are wasting away, and the older we become the
more we recognize this fact. We are told inwardly we are being renewed day by day.
We are told to fix our eyes
on what is unseen. This is Good News!
I pray that while you are eating your biscuits and gravy, you enjoy studying
the Bible to focus you on Je-sus, and your inner person is renewed with hope, peace,
