We had around 24 people show up to help. Several high school kids earned community service points for school. The Ponds conservancy bought lunch for everyone as a thank you for their help and support for the community. The County has been busier than they thought with hurricane debris clean-up. The Public Works department has told us they will be in this week. Most of you are aware that Mike McLendon, Vice-President with Kolter Homes, and President of the PCA Board of Directors has resigned. Kolter is searching for his replacement. In the interim, Kolter has appointed Keith Berg, Kolter Vice-President of Land to head up their project in the Ponds. Mr. Berg will speak to the membership at the annual meeting next week to bring us up-to-date on their plans for the Ponds for the coming year. As we close the year, please accept my sincere thanks for all of the support you’ve shown our staff here. Your kindness does not go unnoticed, or unappreciated. All of us feel it’s a real privilege to work in such a beautiful community with such a fine group of people. At the request of a few homeowners with homes for sale, and their Listing Agents, Emily Quandt, Board Secretary has consulted with local Realtors and they’ve come up with a plan for a “Community Open House” day on the first Saturday of each month. There will be a 3 month trial period, and if everything goes well, this will continue in the future. We are in the process of having signs made to put at the entry, and directional signs to route traffic to the homes participating that month. No individual Realtor open house signs will be allowed, except in the yard of the homes holding the open house events. Individual Open House signs will be allowed to be posted on the Friday before the event on the individual lots, and must be removed when the open house is finished on Saturday. All directional signs will be uniform, have the Ponds logo, and be available to be signed out at the PCA office in the Farmhouse by the homeowners holding an open house the week prior to the event. Signs will have to be returned to the Farmhouse on the following Monday. Failure to return a sign will result in the homeowner being charged for its replacement. We understand that not all open houses will be held on the first Saturday, therefore, open house signs in the owner's yards will be continued to be allowed. Realtors are allowed to place their open house signs across Hwy 17A by the Ponds and Harris Teeter signs. Sincerely, Steve Grimes Community Manager

Just look for the toy collection box in the Farmhouse lobby. Please visit the website below to learn more about the Dorchester Children’s Center Holiday toy Drive. Thanks to each of you for all you’ve done (and continue to do) to support the broader Dorchester County Community! http://dorchesterchildren.org/index.php/get-involved/christmas-program

A special thanks to all of the PCA members who gathered with The Ponds & Trails Club Saturday, November 19th to help clean up the trails. Student volunteers were able to accrue valuable community service hours—and the trails look great! Please remember to use the very nice recycling containers located on The Farmhouse porch and in the Pavilion that were donated by The Ponds Conservancy.

Sponsored by Summerville DREAM, the Annual Christmas Parade is a free, public event that brings the community together to spread Christmas cheer. Traditionally, the parade is one of the largest in the state, featuring nearly 3,000 participants with an overwhelming spectatorship of 25,000. The Ponds Conservancy
The Ponds Conservancy is a non-profit organization created to enhance
the quality of life and sense of community for property owners at The
Ponds. The Conservancy is funded by a sales transfer fee (aka
Community Enhancement Fee) that is collected at each closing and is
equal to 1/8th of 1 percent (with a limit of 1%). The authority of the
Conservancy comes from our Covenants in section 8.12 giving the
Declarant the right to form such an entity.
The Conservancy has four major functions serving both the property
owners and general public:
Environmental: to promote environmental stewardship and
provide a greater understanding and appreciation of our natural
resources both here at The Ponds and in our surrounding area.
Education: to provide educational and enrichment
programs for Ponds property owners and the surrounding area.
Sense of Community: to promote and enhance artistic,
cultural and social components of The Ponds lifestyle thru the
arts, festivals, community gatherings, athletic competitions, etc.
Outreach: to assist charitable organizations and facilitate
property owner volunteerism in Dorchester County and the
surrounding area.
In 2016, over 30 events took place with the support of the Conservancy
to include monthly educational lectures at the farmhouse, enhancements
to our trails and ponds, participation in several community events,
addition of the Little Free Library, visits/tours to Summerville Museum
and Beidler Forest. For a more comprehensive list, please visit the
LandArc website. (Steve…be sure to add this somewhere so owners can
find it.)
Special thanks to Peter Cumbie and members of the Ponds and Trails
Club who has partnered with the Conservancy to assist in enhancing our
ponds and trails. We will continue to work together in 2017 to bring more
enhancements to our community.
If you have further questions on the Conservancy, please contact
