BackStoryWednesdays at 8 pm CT

BackStory is a public radio program and podcast that brings historical perspective to the events happening around us today. On each show, renowned historians Ed Ayers, Peter Onuf, and Brian Balogh tear a topic from the headlines and plumb its historical depths. Together, they drill down to colonial times and earlier, revealing the connections (and disconnections) between past and present. With its passionate, intelligent, and irreverent approach, BackStory is fun and essential listening.

Enter every week until the end of 2014!

We’ve been celebrating this year—celebrating a milestone in the history of Prairie Public and also a milestone in the technological and educational history of our region.

Our founders recognized the potential of radio and television, and they envisioned using these media to bring the world to our prairie community. Since then, Prairie Public has rocketed into the new millennium. Huge advances in technology have allowed us to expand our radio, television, and education services.

The people of our region are richer because those who founded Prairie Public and the community that helped it to grow were—and continue to be—committed to respect for the individual and the audience, to lifelong learning, civil discourse, and our regional identity.

Thank you for your ongoing support. Thank you for welcoming us into your homes and your lives. Join me in applauding Prairie Public’s first 50 years and ushering in the next 50 years!
