The Palm-Aire Friends of the Arts held a Member-ship Brunch at the East Room of PACC on No-

vember 9th. It was a culinary delight highlighted by an Emmy Nominated television program called “Check Please!”

Our Co-Chairpersons, Marge Ronskavitz, and Georgia Rachelson organized a wonderful brunch with TV host, Guest Speaker and Chef, Michelle Bernstein along with the Producer of “Check Please” Joyce Bel-loise. Committee members included Jo Murphy, Mad-die Schaitkin, Susan Bloom, Rosalie Lipson, Karen Ba-jcar and our Planning Specialist Terri Platek.

With a delicious brunch provided by Palm-Aire & Silver Lining Caterers, Casa Maya of Deerfield Beach was a guest restaurant that brought us delicious Mexican delicacies such as Chicken Burritos, Pulled pork taco bites, and Turkey sliders. No one left hungry!

Inside Job DVD Takes a closer look at what brought about the financial meltdown.

Storyline:‘Inside Job’ provides a comprehensive analysis of the global financial crisis of 2008, which at a cost over $20 trillion, caused millions of people to lose their jobs and homes in the worst recession since the Great Depression, and nearly resulted in a global financial collapse. Through exhaustive re-search and extensive interviews with key financial insiders, politicians, journalists, and academics, the film traces the rise of a rogue industry which has corrupted politics, regulation, and academia. It was made on location in the United States, Iceland, England, France, Singapore, and China.Available at your public library, and Starz on demand! With Excerpts on youtube...

BOOK REVIEW

Only Time Will Tell

Jeffrey Archer. St. Martin’s Press. 386 pp. $27.99.

“…one scholar, one exhibitioner and one com-moner arrived in the ancient university city, by different moves of transport, to begin their three-year under-graduate courses.” To discover the identities of these three young men, look no further than Jeffrey Archer’s latest, Only Time Will Tell. Jeffrey Archer is a treat! I’ve favorably reviewed several of his 15 novels and seven collections of short stories. The novel moves well, aided no doubt in large part by the effective dialogue. Mr. Archer is particu-larly adept with the British working-class accents and cadences. This is well-contrasted with the upper-class speech of the boys in prep school. Similar contrasts are drawn between working-class and noble adults. The mode of narration in Only Time Will Tell bears mention. For the various Parts entitled by the name of an individual from the dramatis personae, the first chapter is related by that individual in the first per-son. The remaining chapters are then narrated in the third person with that particular person being center stage. Only Time Will Tell is the first installment of the Clifton Chronicles featuring Harry Clifton. Now that I’m happily through the first segment, I’ll have to be patient until Mr. Archer delivers his much-anticipat-ed second book.

Step 1:Lightly grease a 9 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan. To keep cake from overbrowning, line pan with parchment paper; lightly grease paper. In a medium-size bowl, pour enough boiling water over the raisins to cover. Let stand for 30 minutes or until water cools to room temperature; drain well. In a medium-size bowl, toss drained raisins and walnuts with 1/2 cup of the flour.

Step 2:Preheat the oven to 325°. In another medium-size bowl, stir together the remaining 2 cups flour, the cardamom, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In a large bowl, with an electric mixer on medium, cream the brown sugar and butter until light and fluffy, scraping side of bowl often. Add the egg

whites and beat well. Add the egg and beat well. Using a wooden spoon, stir in one-third of the flour mixture, then half of the bourbon. Repeat, then stir in the remaining flour mixture. Fold in the raisin mixture.

Step 3:Spread batter evenly into prepared pan; smooth the surface. Bake about 55 minutes or until a tooth-pick inserted in the center comes out clean. Place the pan upright on a wire rack for 20 minutes. Using a narrow metal spatula, loosen sides of cake from the pan, then invert the cake onto the rack. Cool completely. Remove the paper.

SKIN DEEP

Why Scars Form Scar formation is a natural part of the healing process that oc-curs when a wound closes following accidents, surgery or disease. The time skin takes to heal varies de-pending on the degree of damage. The longer it takes to heal, the great-er the chance of a noticeable scar. It is important to know that scarring is considered to be the fi-nal stage of wound healing and all wounds form scars, but not all scars will become abnormal scars. Normal scars will develop dur-ing the first 48 hours following the wound closure and can fade within 3 months, whereas abnormal scars

can occur up to 18 months later. Scars resulting from surgical inci-sions can become abnormal regard-less of the skill of the surgeon.

OH THOSE FABULOUS FORTIES!

A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ONTHE WAY TO THE FORUM Musical

"Tragedy tomorrow, comedy tonight!" Broadway's greatest farce is light, fast-paced, witty, irreverent and one of the funniest musicals ever written-the perfect escape from life's troubles.

With the infectious energy of classic vaudeville, the result is a non-stop laugh-fest in which a crafty slave (Pseudolus) struggles to win the hand of a beautiful but slow-witted courtesan (Philia) for his young master (Hero), in exchange for freedom.

AND THEN THERE WERE NONE A Murder Mystery by Agatha Christie

Ten people are invited for a weekend on an island by a Mr U. N. Own, but he isn't on the island. At dinner, a record is played, by that all the people are accused of murder.

Suddenly the first of them is dead, then the next... It seems to be that one of them is the murderer, but the person in suspect is always the person who is murdered next.

7. T-Mobile G-Slate Another promising tablet that’s flying under the radar is the T-Mobile G-Slate, which is being built by LG. The two companies haven’t released many of-ficial details about the tablet, other than it will run Android 3.0 Honeycomb and connect to T-Mobile’s new HSPA+ network. The tablet, also called the LG V-900, is expected to have a 9-inch screen, a dual core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, and Micro USB and Mi-cro HDMI ports. Bizarrely, recent rumors have also surfaced that the G-Slate will feature a glasses-less 3D display. That would be a terrible move that would likely doom an otherwise promising tablet.
