FOURTHSUNDAY OF
ADVENT
December 20, 2020

This week’s bulletin is for two weeks: Saturday,
December 19 – through Christmas Day, Friday,
December 25 and Saturday, December 26 through
New Year’s Day, Friday, January 1, 2021.
A word of thanks and appreciation to all HNJ and KCA parishioners who completed ornaments to be hung
on the Christmas trees in the Sanctuary with the Acts of Kindness you accomplished during the Season of
Advent. If you wish to have an ornament on one of the trees, please complete one before you leave Church
this weekend.
Thank you to who supported the Annual Christmas Flower Fund. There is a listing of all enrolled in the
Christmas Flower Novena. You can still enroll a family member, relative or friend by completing and return-
ing a Christmas Flower Fund envelope ASAP.
Many thanks, too, to all who participated in the Giving Tree. Your generous gift cards helped to brighten
Christmas for the recipients. The gift cards were distributed in a timely fashion. And to our generous pa-
rishioners and friends who support(ed) the parish food pantry, thank you for remembering those who struggle to have food on their tables. Your generous donations of food and gift cards for the supermarkets
helped those who sought assistance and you also helped to replenish the food pantry in a neighboring par-
ish after the Thanksgiving holiday.
For most of us, our Christmas celebrations will be quite different this year because of the virus. However you will celebrate the Birth of Jesus, let us remember to pray for one another and to reach out to one an-
other in whatever way possible; let us also remember to pray for the first responders and essential workers
who risked and continue to risk their lives for us; may we also remember in a special way our loved ones,
relatives, friends and parishioners who passed this year.
As you come before the manger and contemplate the mystery of God’s love revealed through His Son, Jesus Christ, perhaps you can offer this prayer from the Book of Blessings:
God of every nation and people, from the very beginning of creation you have made manifest your love: when our need for a Savior was great
you sent your Son to be born of the Virgin Mary. To our lives He brings joy and peace, justice, mercy and love.
Lord, bless all who look upon this manger; may it remind us of the humble birth of Jesus, and raise up our thoughts to Him, who is God-with-us and Savior of all, who lives and reigns for ever and ever.
Amen.
We, the Staff at Holy Name of Jesus, join in prayer and
offer you
the peace, joy and love of the newborn Savior, Jesus
Christ the Lord.
May the New Year bring you blessings of peace and health.
Thank you for all you do for Holy Name of Jesus Parish.
Sunday December 20, 2020 The 4th Sunday of Advent FOCUS: Often we ignore God’s voice call-ing us to service and a new vision. We ask forgiveness for the times when we have not responded to God’s call. In the first reading, a king reflects on all God has done for him. God will grant him even greater gifts. In the second reading, Paul is thankful for the privilege of preaching the Gospel. In the Gospel, Mary responds to the overwhelming announcement from the angel Gabriel by declaring that she is the handmaid of the Lord.

Sunday, December 27th, 2020 The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph FOCUS: Our Lord became part of a human family to be an ex-ample for us. We begin this Eucharist by remembering where we have failed in living that example within our own families. In the first reading, a wise teacher offers sound advice for strength-ening the bonds that keep a family together. In the second reading, Paul reminds us that as members of Christ’s Body we are one with the Lord. In the Gospel, Mary is purified, and Je-sus is presented to the Lord. Simeon and Anna prophesy who this child really is and what is in store for both him and his mother. Saturday, 12/26/20-Saint Stephen, The First
