A Word From The Pastor Dear Church Family,

It’s hard to believe that Christmas is upon us and we are

headed into 2011.Time sure does fly; life as the scripture

states, is like a vapor. I wonder if another Christmas and

another year will pass before we take the opportunity to tell

others about Jesus. What better time to share with others

about Jesus than the time of year when everyone is

celebrating His birth, and when people are looking to make a

life change for the approaching New Year. Most people don’t

need more stuff; what they need is to hear about the love of

our Savior, Jesus Christ. I hope that all of you have a Christ

filled Christmas and a Spirit-led New Year.

Youth Ministry

I don’t know about you…but I have a love/hate relationship with this time of the

year! I love what the season truly represents but I hate what we have made it. Take the

Christmas tree for example. Most everyone has an ornate tree in their house, made beautiful by

ornaments, lights, and garland. We spend money that we truly don’t have in order to display

countless presents underneath for all to see. This is a far cry from the “original” tree. The one

I’m referring to, of course, was a large, very rough, instrument of torture that Christ Jesus was

crucified upon. The “Light of the World” was the true present that was given to all. It is up to

us to accept this present and then give it away to as many as will receive it!

Just a few dates to keep in mind:

-December 3-5 will be our “Purity” D-Now event. Host homes, activities, and guest speakers

are in place and this will be a great experience for the teens. Cost is $20.00 which includes

meals and a T-shirt. Students need to arrive at church at 6:00pm on Friday and will be

returning to church on Sunday morning. Students will need to bring sleeping bags, pillows,

toiletries, warm clothes, and towels. Please make sure your student attends as this is a very

important topic.

-Monday, December 20 we will be taking a youth shopping trip to the Mills in St. Louis. Cost

is whatever they need for lunch and dinner as well as any spending money they wish to

bring. There is an ice-skating rink that they will have access to. If they wish to go skating, they

will need to bring an additional $8.00. We will leave the church at 9:00am and will return by

7:00pm.

-Friday, December 31 we will have a New Year’s Eve lock-in!

Thanks to all the parents who give me the opportunity to minister to their students. They are

truly a blessing to me. Please feel free to drop by anytime for a conversation and to see what’s

going on!

Love you all,

Pastor Mark

Church Family,

There comes a time in each of our lives when we realize our moment in a given place of

service has come and gone. That time has come for me regarding my tenure here at Westside

Baptist Church.

I have been privileged to serve five years as your Worship Pastor. During that time we

have experienced some tremendous blessings of God and also endured times of trials. All in

all, I believe that our time here was appointed by God Himself.

It is, however, time for me to move on to opportunities that lie ahead. Therefore, I have

resigned my position as Worship Pastor of Westside Baptist Church.

While we look ahead with anticipation to all that the Lord has in store for us, we cannot

escape the heavy-hearted emotion that comes from leaving this church and community we

have come to adore. You have embraced us and loved us; you have helped to nurture and

educate our children. There are so many moments we will fondly remember for years to

come. I can only hope that you will be able to do the same.

Char and I covet your prayers as we uproot our family from here and plant where the

Lord leads us, and we vow to pray for you as you seek God’s men to complete the ministry

staff here. It has been one of the greatest honors of my life to serve this congregation. I am

forever grateful for the opportunity.

By His Grace and For His Glory,

Brian K. Bond

Noah’s Arkticle

Here we are at what we let become one of the busiest times of the

year! If your family is like ours, you have your own set of

traditions for the holidays. Maybe those include home baked

goodies, homemade gifts, Operation Christmas Child Box,

searching out someone who may be lonely to invite to some of

your festivities, sending out the Christmas cards with the annual

family picture, making travel arrangements to visit family, the gift

shopping, and the list goes on and on. One of ours is to get ALL

the Christmas decorations out the day after Thanksgiving. It is

during this tradition, that my children always give me a reality

check. Before any decorations are set out, before the tree is

allowed to be assembled, before the lights can be hung, we HAVE

to find the box that contains the Little Tykes Nativity set! We can

NOT start the Christmas season until it is found, assembled, the

angel placed on top the manager, and it plays Away in the

Manager. (Let me remind you, my children are now 13 and 9 but

this has been a tradition of theirs since they were small and they

still insist on it.) Through this simple, innocent act, my children

remind me what this season is truly about: the birth of our Savior!

They remind me to keep that wonderful fact as my main focus

throughout the season. I pray that you have a few quiet moments

this season to observe your children and catch a glimmer of joy

and wonder through them. The light of Christ shines especially

bright in the innocence of children, maybe we can strive to be

more like them this Christmas season!

In His Service,

Misti Noah

Page 5: DECEMBER ‘10—JANUARY ‘11 A Word From The Pastor

We had a little extra room this time so we thought that we would share the works of a quiet, unknown poet. It is truly amazing the kinds of unknown abilities that people have, and it is truly a blessing when a few of those come to the surface. I am so glad that God has brought us all together, to learn , grow and serve together. We don’t have the ability to see the unique mosaic that God is constantly forming around us. He brings people to us and he ushers others along, all the while reshaping and molding the church to reflect His Glory and greatness. I am thankful for you, all of you, each of you, and I am confident that God’s work here is far from complete. As we celebrate the Christmas season, celebrate the constantly changing, fully alive deliberate effect of Christ’s coming– His church. Love one another and rekindle a sense of the good and constant gift of this body and fellowship. Merry Christmas church, Pastor Lindell

Winter’s Day By Ken Merrill

Snowflakes are falling,

The valleys are white.

Icicles descending,

Old Man Winters in sight.

Warm coats and mittens,

The attire of the day.

Snowballs are flying,

Children at play.

The shoppers are eager,

Malls are alive.

Holiday festivities in abundant supply.

Christmas trees lit, presents below.

Eyes of a child are all aglow.

Wisemen and shepherds,

The birth of King.

Angels rejoicing and praising his name.

He’s a savior, a counselor, and ours to behold.

If we change our hearts, and enter his fold.

Faith, Peace and Joy,

O what a treat!

Open your heart,

And the season will be complete

Westside Preschool Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to our wonderful supportive

church family! We are so blessed to have you behind us as we share the Lord

with the children and their families this school year.

“Give thanks to the Lord for He is good, His love endures forever.” Psalm

107:1. This was one of the Bible verses that some of the children learned the

month of November. They talked about Pilgrims, Indians, and Thanksgiving this

month. Most of the classes reviewed the letters A-J this month, and worked on

the numbers 1 through 10. Some of our Bible characters for the month of

November were Luke and King Solomon.

We had some big things happening in November. First, on November 13th

we had parents, church members and other volunteers come out for the day and

help us install the new playground equipment in our play area! What a blessing to

have so many come out and help us. The children are very excited and looking

forward to being able to play on it as soon as the matting is installed under it!

We also had our big Thanksgiving lunch with parents. Everyone enjoyed the time

together eating and having fellowship. We would like to especially thank the

pastors for cooking the turkeys for us. Ms. Jackie had some wonderful help in

the kitchen and we had some folks bring in desserts for us. Thank you all again,

your help to made it a wonderful day.

December will come and go so quickly! We will be having our annual

Christmas program on Wednesday, December 8th at 7p.m. The children and

teachers have been working hard on their songs and motions to make this

another fun evening. Please come out and see what the children have learned

and show your support for these families. We will be out for Christmas break

starting December 18th. We pray that each family will have a blessed Christmas

and the children will come back in January with many exciting things to tell us!

January 4th will be our first day back to school. Lord willing, we will have

a Family night on January 18th. We have not figured this one totally out yet, but

I am sure we will have some kind of craft, the children will be performing on the

stage, and we can’t have a family night without some kind of snack! You are

always welcome to come and see what they are up to, talk with the families, and

hear what they are saying about this school!

I pray that the Lord will bless all of you this season.

TEAMKID MUSICAL “Follow the Star”

Sunday, Dec. 5th

9:45 AM & 11:00 AM

Follow the Star is a fun and joyous reminder of why the “wise men” of

the Christmas Story sought after Christ and why we still do today! This is an amazing story of obedience, faith and worship. Join the fantastic story of these three companions as they set their sights on a bright star in the heavens that would ultimately lead them to the Christ-child, the King of all kings!

Heavenly Herald

I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more

abundantly. John 10:10

Christmas is not just a date on the calendar. It is not just an annual holiday. It is not a day to glorify

selfishness and materialism. Christmas is the celebration of the event that set Heaven to singing, an event that gave

the stars of the night sky a new brilliance. Christmas tells us that at a specific time and at a specific place a

specific person was born. That person was “ God of God, Light of Light, very

God of very God” - the Lord Jesus Christ. From the lips of Him who came fell these words: “ The Son of Man has

come to seek and to save which was lost.” (Luke 19:10) Like piercing

trumpets, these words heralded the breaking in the Divine to human

history. They declare that Heaven has come to our rescue and that God has

not left us to stumble alone on Earth’s pathway. What a wonderful and

glorious hope we have because of that first Christmas!
