Dealing With Temptations

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

I Corin 10:13

Temptations• Remember the enemy is familiar with your

old business/past sins.

• The enemy tends to bring back up things that threw us or caused us (or seduced us) to fall to past sins/ habits (drinking, smoking, drugs, sex outside of marriage).

• Now the Holy Spirit tells us clearly that in the last times some will turn away from the true faith; they will follow deceptive(seducing) spirits and teachings that come from demons.; I Tim. 4:1 (NLT)

TemptationsStay away from environments and situations that caused you to fall into sin in the past.

• When your strong enough then strengthen your sister & brothers.

• And he spake a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch. Luke 6:39; Eph. 5:8-16

• Gal. 6:1 (NLT)-Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself.

Temptations

• Remember during hard times the enemy is more likely to attack you.

• Satan can attack when you're: 1. at your lowest; 2. Weak; 3. during a crisis. 4. in the old stuff-He's familiar with your old business 5. When you don't feel well physically or emotionally 6. When you're alone or not with individuals from the Body of Christ 7. When you're out of your routine (prayer, church, fellowship etc)

Temptations

I Corin. 10: 1-13 (MSG)

• 1-5 Remember our history, friends, and be warned. All our ancestors were led by the providential Cloud and taken miraculously through the Sea. They went through the waters, in a baptism like ours, as Moses led them from enslaving death to salvation life. They all ate and drank identical food and drink, meals provided daily by God. They drank from the Rock, God’s fountain for them that stayed with them wherever they were. And the Rock was Christ. But just experiencing God’s wonder and grace didn’t seem to mean much—most of them were defeated by temptation during the hard times in the desert, and God was not pleased.

Watch As Well As Pray

6-10 The same thing could happen to us. We must be on guard so that we never get caught up in wanting our own way as they did. And we must not turn our religion into a circus as they did—“First the people partied, then they threw a dance.” We must not be sexually promiscuous—they paid for that, remember, with 23,000 deaths in one day! We must never try to get Christ to serve us instead of us serving him; they tried it, and God launched an epidemic of poisonous snakes. We must be careful not to stir up discontent; discontent destroyed them.

TemptationsDon’t ever say what you won’t do. Wherefore let him that thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.

• All these things (shared in the word) happened to them as examples—as object lessons to us—to warn us against doing the same things; they were written down so that we could read about them and learn from them in these last days as the world nears its end.

• So be careful. If you are thinking, “Oh, I would never behave like that”—let this be a warning to you. For you too may fall into sin. ( I Corin. 10:12 TLB).

Temptations

• 11-12 These are all warning markers—DANGER!—in our history books, written down so that we don’t repeat their mistakes. Our positions in the story are parallel—they at the beginning, we at the end—and we are just as capable of messing it up as they were. Don’t be so naive and self-confident. You’re not exempt. You could fall flat on your face as easily as anyone else. Forget about self-confidence; it’s useless. Cultivate God-confidence.

Temptations

God Won’t Put More On You Than You Can Bear.• No test or temptation that comes your

way is beyond the course of what others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; he’ll never let you be pushed past your limit; he’ll always be there to help you come through it.

Temptations

Learn From The Experiences of Others:

• But remember this—the wrong desires that come into your life aren’t anything new and different. Many others have faced exactly the same problems before you. And no temptation is irresistible. You can trust God to keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can’t stand up against it, for he has promised this and will do what he says. He will show you how to escape temptation’s power so that you can bear up patiently against it.

Temptations

• Matt. 4:1-11

• What are some things Jesus did to overcome temptations?

Page 12: Dealing With Temptations There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above.

TemptationsDon’t be tempted to exercise yourself in matters to high for you.• Acts 8:14-24

• Don’t get caught up in the gift ( the acts of God/(what you see) & not learn His ways. Have your own personal relationship with God.

• It’s better to stay and struggle then leave and die.

• If we mess up we need to repent and move forward, learning from our mistakes so we don’t fall again. Don’t be tempted to hold on to past mistakes after you have asked God to forgive you.

TemptationsRecognize and Acknowledge Your Weaknesses & Sins

• Prov. 28: 12-13 (TLB)-When the godly are successful, everyone is glad. When the wicked succeed, everyone is sad.

• 13 A man who refuses to admit his mistakes can never be successful. But if he confesses and forsakes them, he gets another chance.

• We will never change until we make up our minds to diligently pursue the means God provides. The decision to do this is repentance, and no one will change to please God without it.

Page 14: Dealing With Temptations There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above.

Temptations

• Most achievements in life require about 10% ability and 90% just plain determination and hard work. In spiritual matters, God has granted every accountable person the ability to please Him; so we are completely able to change. God provides everything we need. The decision/choice is ours.

Temptations

• I Corin. 15:33-34

• What is the effect of keeping evil company?

Page 16: Dealing With Temptations There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above.

TemptationsJames 1:12-27

• Who does God bless?

• Who or what are we tempted by?

• What should we lay aside as believers?

• What should we do as believers.

• God does not promise that change will be easy, but He promises that it is possible if we diligently obey His word.

• Some say idle time can be a devils work shop. Keep busy seeking God and being a blessing to others and your family.

Temptations

Don’t be Idle (wasted time-useless)• Some say idle hands can be a devils work shop. Keep busy seeking

God and being a blessing to others and your family.• The Scriptures say: “We hear that some among you are idle. They

are not busy; they are busybodies” (2 Thess. 3:11). By not using their time productively, these people were tempted to meddle in other people’s business and stand in the way of their progress.

• “They get into the habit of being idle and going about from house to house. And not only do they become idlers, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things they ought not to” (1 Timothy 5:13).

• These idlers and busybodies were wasting time that could have been used to help others. In essence, their lack of activity was leading them into sin.

Page 18: Dealing With Temptations There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above.

Temptations

• Idleness is not the same as rest. The Bible advises having people to rest, and to take breaks from work is good.

• By “idle” we mean “lazy” or “doing nothing when you should be doing something.”

• Idleness often stems from not having a specific goal or purpose in mind. With no goal, one can be easily distracted.

• The book of Proverbs warns us that sloppy or careless work is akin to malicious destruction: “One who is slack in his work is brother to one who destroys” (Proverbs 18:9).

Temptations

Jesus Will Help Us-Heb. 4:14-16 (ERV)• 14 We have a great high priest who has gone to live with

God in heaven. He is Jesus the Son of God. So let us continue to express our faith in him.

• 15 Jesus, our high priest, is able to understand our weaknesses. When Jesus lived on earth, he was tempted in every way. He was tempted in the same ways we are tempted, but he never sinned.

• 16 With Jesus as our high priest, we can feel free to come before God’s throne where there is grace. There we receive mercy and kindness to help us when we need it.
