Characters in this story can be divided based on their function and position into main and second characters ;Main character has the most important role in developing the story with psychological aspect (Constance Briscoe).Second character plays parts in the story and gives or distributes more influence to main character (Miss K).
Per Linell (2009), ‘dialogue action and
Prescription’
Every character could be distinguished by a
dialog, an action or prescription in the novel.
Dialogue refers to the words spoken
between characters in a short story or novel,.
It also refers to a character speaking to
himself or herself in order to reveal the
personality of a character-( opinions,
thoughts, impressions), create conflict, and
advance the narrative.
Action is the events in a literary work.
Prescription is something prescribed.
In chapter 17 – A Taste of Paradise, page 269-280
The dialogue between Constance Briscoe and Miss K was about
the way Constance asked Miss K’s opinion about her dream to be
a barrister.
Page 273 ;
line 11-14; ‘ That’s right, my girl, aim high,’ she (Miss K) said. ‘
There’sonly one person who can stop you, Clare, you
remember that. Anya Korchinskye says there is only
one person in the whole world who can stop you.’
Line 15; ‘Who is that, miss?’ i (Clare) said.
Line 16; ‘You, Clare. Only you can stop yourself. You have the
ability to go far. So just go.’

had to do with the school.’
