If you read this as “Forty Dol-lars over Forty Pounds”, you got it! And if you noticed the dog census at “59”, the prob-lem is evident—there are ‘way too many dogs! The only acceptable solutions are to move some to foster homes, or make LOTS of adoptions! That’s the reason it has been decided that the adoption fee will be reduced to $40 for those dogs who weigh more than 40 pounds! Check out the pictures on this and the following page and pick out your new Best Friend.

Volunteers needed!

Robyn reports that the shelter has recently made some very important connections with breed-specific rescue groups. One of the most important factors in getting rescue groups to take animals from our shelter is our ability to transport them to the Winding River Kennel in Kansas City. From there they will be picked up as they travel on I-70. The shelter needs assistance in transporting dogs

from ACARF to Winding River. If you’ve able and willing to assist, please call the shelter at 620-496-3647 and speak with Andi, Janice, or Robyn. Getting the animals into a rescue group assures us of a good outcome for the animal—they are well cared for in private homes while awaiting adoption. Thank you for your help!

To the many who responded to the “Beat the Heat” appeal for donations, we offer a heartfelt “THANK YOU”. To Julie Payne and Dawn Murray

who spent all the necessary hours putting it all together we offer our sincere congratula-tions on a job well done. And to Herff-Jones who donated all the printing for the mailing, well, you’re a truly valued corporate part-ner. Thank you for everything you’ve done to help.

Pet of the Week Roxy

Roxy is a beautiful Labrador Retriever mix female who is a very sweet and very happy girl. We believe she may be mixed with Golden Retriever, because her coat has a lovely wavy quality. Roxy also has some incredibly expressive dark brown eyes. This very intelligent dog knows her “sit”, doesn’t jump on anyone, and is eager to come when called. Such lovely manners! Roxy would be a wonderful pet for any family.

Farewell… It has been my pleasure to report ACARF news to

you through deTails. This was first inflicted upon you in

December 2010. At that time, the website was alive, but

floundering a bit and there was a void in information sharing.

But—in this case all for the better—everything changes, so

this will be the final issue of deTails.

The website is up and is flourishing, as is the Face-

book page. News and special events are reported instantly.

Robyn Porter, Media Coordinator, has done an out-

standing job of building and maintaining an attractive and

functional presence on the web. The time and effort she de-

votes as a volunteer and Board member is priceless. I encour-

age you to visit both the website and Facebook page; you

will be richly rewarded with pictures and descriptions of

adoptable animals, news of special events, conversations of

interest, and everything you ever wanted to know.

Although you’ve been told many times, it can’t be

said enough: Thank you for all you do on behalf of the dogs

and cats.

Glenda

It’s so nice to have someone waiting when you get home...
