GOAL: To conduct an outreach survey of various groups of northeast Indiana business professionals on continuing education needs
PURPOSE: To help IPFW better serve the educational needs of the region
• Ensure that the coursework and training being offered are relevant in today’s fast-paced, high-tech environment
• Develop a baseline of training needs in the region and couple needs with offerings

• Ultimately align with Indiana’s Big Goal of 60 percent higher education attainment by 2025
• According to 2012 Census data, only 34.4 percent of working-age Hoosiers (25-64 years old) hold a two- or four-year college degree
• Data suggests that if Indiana does nothing, only 41 percent of Hoosiers will have a degree or credential by 2025
• In October 2014, 24,098 emails were sent to 12 different groups
• Groups including professionals from healthcare, manufacturing, corporate training, and others
• Survey questions was divided by general topic and asked about office, business, healthcare, manufacturing, computer, and IT training needs, along with graduate and undergraduate degree needs

• Open rate was almost 30%, response rate was at 30%, and completion rate was just over 50%
• The call for feedback resulted in 2,022 surveys started and 1,190 surveys completed
• These numbers represent exceptional response from the community

In addition to highlighting some very key needs in the region, the overwhelming response was people want to connect with IPFW Continuing Studies
• 357 people, or 33% of completed surveys, said they would be interested in the results of the survey
• 148 people, or 12% of completed surveys, said they would be interested in participating in a focus group on this topic
• 178 people, or 15% of completed surveys, said they would be interested talking to IPFW about their training needs
SURVEY RESULTS
1. IPFW Continuing Studies will hold a second research event in order to gain a more detailed understanding of training needs. Participants will include area business people who volunteered to participate.
2. New course development will be based on the results.
