DAY 2

MUSCAT CITY TOUR The city tour of Muscat is mandatory to experience what Oman has in offer. Muscat offers the visitor a unique opportunity to witness a modern commercial center existing in harmony with its traditional culture. The tour starts at the Grand Mosque at what may be the most exquisite mosque in Oman. The instructions for building the largest mosque were issued by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said. Who he himself, accompanied by his instructions with the team overseeing the project at the Diwan of the Royal Court, has endorsed the spiritual and architectural role of the Grand Mosque in marked tribute to the distinguished and noble Islamic heritage. We continue our drive to the waterfront Corniche and visit the Muttrah Souq one of the most popular Souqs in the Middle East. Brief walk takes us to its labyrinthine alleyways beckoning with a myriad of merchandise, from imported fabrics to exotic Oriental spices, perfumes and richly handcrafted Artifacts. A visit to this frenetic, pulsating hub of Muscat’s old quarter makes for a delightful experience. After visit of Muttrah Souq, group then proceeds to the magnificent Al Alam Palace, the official residence of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said the ruler of Oman. The palace is an architectural marvel for both its design and its location between the twin Portuguese forts Mirani and Jalali (A brief photograph stop from outside only). Muscat was ruled by the Portuguese. Continue to visit of Oman Museum, before proceeding to Kargeen Restaurant for Lunch. Hot international buffet will be served. After relaxing Lunch, group return to Hotel, with the afternoon at leisure

NIZWA TOUR

After breakfast assemble in the hotel lobby to depart for Nizwa. We drive along the famous route once traveled by renowned travelers like Ibn Batuta and Marco Polo, to Nizwa. It is the traditional capital of the vast interior region of Oman.

As you approach Nizwa, a scene straight from the pages of ‘The Arabian Nights’ greets you. The paved area in front of the Souq is a bustle with people and activity. Reluctant goats, sheep and pale brown cows brought to the market by their owners; impromptu stalls piled high with kaleidoscopic colors of dresses, toys, pots and pans.

At the far end and through the gate – this leads up to Nizwa Fort. The 17th century round tower fort nearby is Oman’s most impressive tower. Built on a solid base of rock, the huge tower was designed to withstand the vibrations of 24 cannons. We climb to the top, for a superb panoramic view / a bird’s eye view all around Nizwa and the surrounding plains – a sure delight for all avid photographers!

DAY 5

HIGHLIGHTS OF DUBAI – DUBAI CITY TOUR

The day provides guests fascinating insights into both modern and traditional aspects of Dubai. We begin our

leisurely drive going past the magnificent Jumeirah Mosque, and the glamorous palaces of the royal family sprawled

along the coast, to arrive at Bastakia - one of the oldest areas of Dubai. Guests can admire the old wind tower, red

sand houses built by wealthy merchants, and the 150 year old Al Fahidi Fort which was erected in 1799 to defend

the city against invasion. Renovated in 1970, the fort now houses the Dubai Museum, which records the city’s past

as an important pearl diving and trading centre. Our journey continues on an abra (water taxi) across the Dubai

Creek for glimpses of the modern metropolis with its splendid architecture on one side dwarfing the bustling alleys

of the souks (marketplaces) on the other. A walk along the Creek is a fascinating experience that combines the past

with the present, and it is deemed a must for visitors in Dubai to see the dhows (wooden sail boats) loading and

unloading their cargo.

A visit to the other side of the Creek signals our next stop at the gold and spice souks. Exotic aromas assail guests

as we walk through alleys lined with small spice shops, ending up at the bustling gold souk, where some of the

finest jewellery on earth is on sale at down to earth prices.

Shop after shop offer dazzling displays, with windows crammed full of gold, diamonds and precious gemstones.

Styles range from simple classical pieces to highly ornate and decorative pieces in 18 gold, as well as in sterling

silver.

Bargaining is expected, almost all shops offer discounts, and the shopping becomes an adventure of its own.

traditional handicraft.

The restaurant offers traditional Arabic treats made up of 6 different styles of starters, 4 different types

of main course and magnificent desserts that you can enjoy in one of the many private dining rooms

available at the restaurant.

Al Bastakia Community is situated in the eastern part of old city in Bur Dubai. This community

represents the architectural landmark of Dubai city where you can find "Barjeel” (high traditional air-

conditioning systems), gypsum decorations and distinctive carpentry works.

The flickering torches and heavy wooden doors intricately carved and studded with vast iron nails,

immediately transport the unsuspecting guest into old world Arabia.

AFTERNOON DESERT SAFARI

The group departs from the hotel in 4WD vehicles and head further into the desert for an adventure of a

lifetime. The serine atmosphere; the expanse of desert landscape with its changing hues and sculptured

dunes makes this an experience worthy of its protected status.

Guests will enjoy an afternoon dune drive where they may be lucky to see the Arabic Oryx or Gazelles in

their natural environment before finding the perfect dune in which to enjoy the stunning Sunset.

DDCR – DUBAI DESERT AND CONSERVATION RESERVE

Each time Arabian Adventures organises a trip to the DDCR, we contribute to its upkeep and

conservation. In effect, each guest who visits Dubai with us plays a direct role in supporting this unique

desert ecosystem protection project. (In 2009 Arabian Adventures contributed over US$ 300,000 to

support the DDCR). The Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve (DDCR) is sponsored by the Emirates

Group and is located in the desert, just 45 kms from the city. Among others, the DDCR’s initiatives

include groundbreaking work in developing sustainable tourism practices, the successful re-introduction

and protection of the Arabian Oryx, the Arabian and Sand Gazelles, and a wide variety of other mammal

species, as well as extensive vegetation surveys and indigenous flora re-seeding programs. The DDCR is

home to over 30 species indigenous to the Arabian Peninsula. Endangered species, until recently on the

verge of extinction, have been successfully re-introduced and continue to breed, undisturbed in the

natural environment. The reserve protects habitats progressively, and has seen a great increase in

resident and migratory bird species, including the Barbary Falcon, Lappett-faced Vultures and migrating

Cuckoo.

In 2008, DCCR was accepted as an official member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature

(IUCN), and subsequently, was registered with the World Database on Protected Areas (WDPA), and

audited by the United Nations Environmental Program World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-

WCMC).

The reserve is the first in the UAE and among very few in the region to be accorded this honour by the

world's leading authority on conservation and sustainable development.

DESERT CHAMPAGNE SUNSET WITH A FALCONRY DEMONSTRATION

The sparkling drink serves as a fitting goodbye to the Arabian sunset as it slowly fades away into the

dunes, and signals a warm welcome to the arrival of a million stars in the night skies of the desert.

THE MIGHT OF THE FALCON

During the medieval period, wealthy sheikhs and rulers were the only people who could afford to keep

and fly these handsome birds, and falconry became known as an exclusive ‘sport of kings.’ However on

our tour, guests can gauge the strength, skills and supreme prowess of these birds for themselves, at

an intimate encounter.

A falconer first explains how the birds are trained, and shares useful information on how it hunts. He

then demonstrates this with an exhibition, where the falcon pursues a live prey.

Guest will have the chance to view the falcon, as well as pose with it.

Page 14: Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5 Day 6 Day 7 BDubai-Program-Itinerary2.pdfDAY 4 BREAKFAST AT HOTEL AND CHECK OUT Transfer from Hotel to Muscat International Airport to connect to Dubai.

1001 ARABIAN NIGHTS Once the sun has gone down, we get back into the 4x4 vehicles for a short drive to a desert camp - for

what is undoubtedly the most exotic Arabian experience.

As the vehicles approach the campsite will come alive in the dark stillness with fire torches. Inside,

rows of shamianas (open Arabic tents) await guests, decorated richly with traditional tapestry, brass

artefacts, floor cushions and low rectangular tables.

Guests will be offered a traditional welcome with dates and hot Arabic coffee when they enter the

campsite. Guests will have ample time to explore the camp which will include Henna (natural colorant)

which are temporary tattoos, Fortune Tellers will be at hand to unfold the mysteries of the future, Arabic

language calligraphers will offer to stylishly write out names on specially printed cards and traditional

Sheeshas (water pipes), with helpers on hand to light the pipes and demonstrate this unusual form of

smoking

Our typical Bedouin feast begins with a special barbecue meal prepared on roasting spits. Hot and cold

mezzes (a series of starters) will be set out on tables, main courses will be served at different locations,

each with tripods set up in its centre to serve a variety of rice dishes, cooked in different styles from the

different regions of the Gulf, and then a selection of Arabic sweets at the dessert station.

Live entertainment can be included to make the proceedings livelier, and the event more dramatic. As

the stars blanket the sky, a beautifully dressed, mysterious looking woman will unveil herself and step

on to the centre stage, and then, to the accompanying beat of the rhythmic music, perform the exotic

movements of the belly dance.

DAY 6

OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES:

DO BUY DUBAI

Shopping in Dubai is a grand revelation, with its staggering variety and competitive prices.

There is something special for everyone who visits the city – whether the shopping is done at air-

conditioned malls, the traditional souks (marketplaces), the Dubai Duty Free complex, or during the

Dubai Shopping Festival. Dubai is famed for wide and reasonably priced choices in textiles, electronics,

jewellery, spices, handicrafts, luxury goods, and personal accessories.

Our first stop is the awe-inspiring Dubai Mall with its stunning Aquarium, and a bevy of prestigious

stores in the shadow of the tallest building in the world. An underground souk, and numerous

restaurants and wellness centres nestle within the premises of this sprawling themed complex.

We move on to the Karama Market, a haven for bargain hunters, where a wide range of copies of

premium designer goods is available at astoundingly low prices.

Our final stop is the famed Mall of the Emirates, one of the five largest malls in the world. This

destination comprises the gigantic mall, a 5 Star hotel, The Magic Planet, Dubai Community Theatre and

Arts Centre, and the Ski Dubai indoor snow park.

CHARTERED CRUISE- A CRUISE AROUND THE PALM ISLAND

Be amongst the first to observe the Eighth Wonder of the World from the deck of your luxurious

catamaran as you sail leisurely around the constructions of the Palm Island. This outstanding

development is a tribute to Dubai’s rising success and ever evolving culture.

Three miles out to the sea is the World, made up of 300 islands representing countries of the globe. A

late brunch or lunch could be organised on the boat for guests to enjoy. Returning to the shore guests

will view the breathtaking Dubai skyline and witness the opulence and beauty of the Burj Al Arab.

Page 17: Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5 Day 6 Day 7 BDubai-Program-Itinerary2.pdfDAY 4 BREAKFAST AT HOTEL AND CHECK OUT Transfer from Hotel to Muscat International Airport to connect to Dubai.

ABU DHABI CITY TOUR – A CAPITAL ADVENTURE From Dubai, we travel past the world’s largest man-made port at Jebel Ali and onward for a two-hour

drive through coastal desert scenery, studded with acacia trees towards the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Abu

Dhabi is the capital of U.A.E. and consists of 80% of the total land area of the U.A.E.

Many of its striking examples of modern architecture show intriguing interpretations of Islamic themes

captured in today’s materials. Shimmering skyscrapers, villas and palaces line our route along the

Riviera – style Corniche with its blue Gulf waters and enticing offshore islands.

In this city of dramatic contrasts, we visit the Sheikh Zayed Heritage village – a ‘living museum’ showing

the traditional way of life before oil was discovered. Managed by the People’s Heritage Revival Society, it

features an old pearling dhow, barasti houses, bedouin goat-hair tents, livestock stables and an

agricultural plot displaying the falaj irrigation system. There are Arabian horses, camel rides,

demonstrations of falconry, and even the milking of camels. Visitors can sample local food & henna

painting.

From there, we continue with a visit to the renovated Al Husn fort, built in 1793 on an area of 6,400 sq.

metres. A portion of the fort has been converted into the ‘Documents & Research Centre’ for the Abu

Dhabi Cultural Foundation. We also visit the charming Batinah Harbour and an old dhow yard.

Traditional dhow races keep the spirit of the dhows alive today. In days gone by, the same methods

were used to build and maintain the dhows as are used today.

DINNER AT AL FALAK BALLROOM, THE BURJ AL ARAB

Spectacular, luxurious and exclusive are words most often associated with Dubai’s landmark Burj Al Arab hotel.

Designed to resemble a full blown billowing sail, the all-suite hotel soars to a height of 321 metres, and dominates

the Dubai coastline. At night, it offers an unforgettable sight, surrounded by choreographed colour sculptures of

water and fire.

The hotel’s highly restricted access also makes it an exceptionally exclusive destination for guests to Dubai.

Al Falak Ballroom is located high on the 27th floor and is one of the city’s most resplendent venues, with its

sumptuous décor, marble pillars, gold dome and dazzling crystal chandelier. Adjacent are located an atmospheric

veranda and outdoor terraces, while an indoor cocktail area serves as an excellent option for pre or post dinner

drinks.

Most guests consider dining at Al Falak Ballroom an experience that is out of this world, recalling the dazzling

magnificence of a royal occasion.

DINNER AT DUBAI CREEK GOLF AND YACHT CLUB

The Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club is a prominent landmark of Dubai with its eye catching and unique

architecture. The 45 metre high award-winning clubhouse is fashioned like the billowing sales of a

traditional dhow (wooden sail boat) and offers spectacular views of the Dubai Creek and the city skyline.

Hidden among acres of immaculate landscaping, the Club is a tranquil oasis in the heart of the city, and

has a choice of discreet terraces, golf course lawns, and restaurants that are ideal for both small and

large groups.

Typical dining involves choices in set menus, handpicked from options in fine international fare, and
