• While Saul was still king, the Philistines were challenging the Israelites. They were led by a warrior named Goliath

• Though Goliath was bigger and stronger, and was armed with better weapons, David declared his faith in God

• David hit Goliath in the forehead with a stone hurled from a sling. Goliath fell dead and David cut off the Philistine’s head with his own sword.

• After the death of Saul, al the tribes of Israel proclaimed David as their king

• David fell in love with a woman named Bathsheba. She was already married to a soldier named Uriah.

• God sent the prophet Nathan to show David his failings

• David repented and vowed to follow God more closely

• It is believed that he wrote many of the psalms, prayer-songs found in the Old Testament

• During his life, Jesus would have prayed the psalms; they were prayers commonly said by those who practiced Judaism

• Jesus would be called a “Son of David”; the Savior was born into the family of David

• David ruled over Israel for over 40 years

• When he died, he was buried in Jerusalem, the “City of David”
