The conference utilizes the manuscript management system of Purdue e-Pubs, and the proceedings within Purdue e-Pubs are produced through the repository’s suite of services offered to the conference organizers, authors, and participants, which includes branding and identification packages. The printed proceedings volumes are published by the Purdue University Press and include the assignment of DOIs. THE INTERDISCIPLINARY JOURNAL OF PROBLEM-BASED LEARNING Launched in 2006 as a joint venture between Purdue Libraries and the College of Education, the Interdisciplinary Journal of Problem-based Learning (IJPBL) publishes relevant, interesting, and challenging articles of research, analysis, or promising practice related to all aspects of implementing problem- based learning (PBL) in K–12 and post- secondary classrooms. With over 287,000 downloads since May 2006 coming from over 180 countries around the globe, IJPBL has set the bar high and has become one of the premier open access journals. The journal lives under the umbrella of the Purdue University Press and is published through the Purdue e-Pubs repository and journal management system, which is made possible by generous support from the Teaching Academy at Purdue University. As one of the earliest adopters of Purdue e-Pubs, the JTRP technical report series became the seminal collection, highlighting the need for the existence of the Division. The relationship began in 2006 with the initial batch transfer of their born-digital and digitized technical reports. This relationship then evolved to the digitization of their backlog of technical reports going back to the 1950s. Published in 2012, “Engaging New Partners in Transportation Research: Integrating Publishing, Archiving, and Indexing of Technical Literature into the Research Process” (Newton et al.) found that by creating a workflow model, JTRP researchers were able to increase discoverability and add value to the reports through the services, infrastructure, and collaboration of both units within the Libraries Publishing Division. To date, there are over 1,700 technical reports in the repository, which have been downloaded over 740,000 times and have been accessed around the globe from countries such as India, China, and South Korea. Recently, we have expanded our role with JTRP to interlink the printed and electronic technical reports to the underlying data through the use of DataCite DOIs. PUBLICATIONS FROM PURDUE PURDUE UNIVERSITY PRESS AND SCHOLARLY PUBLISHING SERVICES Purdue University Libraries Publishing Division www.lib.purdue.edu/publishing ABSTRACT In recent years the scholarly communications environment within higher education institutions has changed so dramatically that stakeholders have become unsure who to turn to for research dissemination support. Whether student publications, books written by faculty, or technical reports, it was unclear to members of the campus community who might offer the best options and solutions. At many academic institutions around the globe, faculty, staff, and students have looked separately to a range of campus specialists, including marketing and I/T departments, as well as libraries and university presses, for guidance and support for disseminating scholarship. The Purdue University Libraries and Purdue Press realized the need to combine their joint publishing and service- oriented undertakings for the campus community into a more cohesive effort. Beginning in 2009, the Press became more strategically aligned with the Libraries so that in 2012, a new Libraries Publishing Division was formed that now offers a center of excellence for campus-based publishing initiatives. This poster will introduce and describe the efforts and solutions of the Purdue Libraries Publishing Division, highlighting the continuum of services, activities, and products now offered to the campus community, as well as discussing the future of library publishing at the University. SOLUTIONS Formed in March 2012, the Libraries Publishing Division was created out of a strategic realignment of the Purdue University Press with the Purdue Libraries. The creation of the Libraries Publishing Division was based upon the findings of the 2010 project conducted by three libraries (including Purdue) with funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), which found that over 55% of respondents to a survey of all sizes of academic libraries were either implementing or developing library publishing. The Purdue Libraries Publishing Division is comprised of two distinct yet parallel units: the Purdue University Press and Scholarly Publishing Services. Purdue University Press (PUP), founded in 1960, produces peer-reviewed books and journals. Its publishing program is directed by an editorial board of nine faculty members. Scholarly Publishing Services (SPS) developed out of the Purdue e-Pubs institutional repository service that was established in 2006. This new alignment created a stronger partnership between these two units, providing an opportunity for both units to lend knowledge and scholarly communication expertize for campus-based publishing activities. The mission of the Libraries Publishing Division is to maximize access to scholarly publications in financially sustainable open models for the benefit of users across the state, nation, and world. CONTINUUM With the partnership of these two publishing arms, the Libraries Publishing Division now offers a continuum of publishing services that benefit the University and stakeholders. This partnership also allows us to dedicate our services, infrastructure, dynamic scholarly communication solutions, and publishing outputs across a spectrum, including but not limited to pre- and post-print collections, conference proceedings, technical reports, journals, and books/e-books/apps, which have created numerous engagement opportunities for the Libraries Publishing Division to collaborate with people and entities across campus. IMPACT Through the creation and implementation of the new combined infrastructure and services, the Libraries Publishing Division provides several publishing solutions for faculty, staff, and students to enhance their dissemination opportunities, while also increasing their capabilities to determine and measure impact. A monthly automated e-mail is sent to each author of publications in Purdue e-Pubs with the latest download counts compiled according to the international COUNTER standard. Increasingly, we see the important role of registering Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) for publications and associated data through CrossRef. DOIs are used to link reference lists to the published sources, providing a valuable means of increasing usage of our electronic publications. Recently, we began interlinking our CrossRef DOI publications to data publications contained within our data repository, the Purdue University Research Repository (PURR), through DataCite DOIs that are primarily for datasets. We seek to increase discoverability, visibility, and presence with as much global reach as possible. Through the employment of Open Archival Initiative (OAI), Google Scholar indexing, and RSS feeds interlinking departmental and personal web presences to collections in Purdue e-Pubs, the Libraries Publishing Division strives to add as much quantitative and qualitative impact to the scholarly communication activities as possible by extending the global online access of Purdue research and scholarship.

ABSTRACT In recent years the scholarly communications environment within higher education institutions has changed so dramatically that stakeholders have become unsure who to turn to for research dissemination support. Whether student publications, books written by faculty, or technical reports, it was unclear to members of the campus community who might offer the best options and solutions. At many academic institutions around the globe, faculty, staff, and students have

looked separately to a range of campus specialists, including marketing and I/T departments, as well as libraries and university presses, for guidance and support for disseminating scholarship. The Purdue University Libraries and Purdue Press realized the need to combine their joint publishing and service-oriented undertakings for the campus community into a more cohesive effort. Beginning in 2009, the Press became more strategically aligned with the Libraries

This poster will introduce and describe the efforts and solutions of the Purdue Libraries Publishing Division, highlighting the continuum of services, activities, and products now offered to the campus community, as well as discussing the future of library publishing at the University.

SOLUTIONS Formed in March 2012, the Libraries Publishing Division was created out of a strategic realignment of

the Purdue University Press with the Purdue Libraries. The creation of the Libraries Publishing Division was based

upon the findings of the 2010 project conducted by three libraries (including Purdue) with funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), which found that over 55% of respondents to a survey of all sizes of academic libraries were either

implementing or developing library publishing. The

Purdue Libraries Publishing Division is comprised of two distinct yet parallel units: the Purdue University Press and Scholarly Publishing Services. Purdue University Press (PUP), founded in 1960, produces peer-reviewed books and journals. Its publishing program is directed by an editorial board of nine faculty members. Scholarly Publishing Services (SPS) developed out of the Purdue e-Pubs institutional repository

service that was established in 2006. This new alignment created a stronger partnership between these two units, providing an opportunity for both units to lend knowledge and scholarly communication expertize for campus-based publishing activities. The mission of the Libraries Publishing Division is to maximize access to scholarly publications in financially sustainable open models for the benefit of users across the state, nation, and world.

which have created numerous engagement opportunities for the Libraries Publishing Division to collaborate with people and entities across campus.

Increasingly, we
